Jacket—With Scarlet ch 46, d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each remaining st of ch, turn each row.
2nd Row—Ch 3 (counts as 1 d c), 1 d c in each of the next 10 d c, decrease in next 2 sts (to decrease: * yarn over hook, insert in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), 1 d c in each of the next 18 d c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 d c in each of the last 11 sts.
3rd Row—Ch 3, 1 d c in each of the next 10 d c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 16 d c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 d c in each remaining st. Work 2 rows even.
6th Row—Ch 3, 1 d c in each of the next 8 d c, turn.
7th and 8th Rows—Ch 3, 1 d c in each of the next 8 d c.
9th Row—Ch 3, 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, cut yarn. With wrong side of 6th row toward you, attach yarn in 23rd free st, ch 3 and work opposite side to correspond.
Back—Attach yarn in 4th free st of 6th row, ch 3, 1 d c in each of the next 15 d c, ch 3, turn. Work 2 rows even.
Next Row—Ch 3, 1 d c in each of the next 4 d c, ch 2, sl st in each of the next 6 d c, ch 2, 1 d c in each of the next 5 sts, cut yarn. Sew shoulders. Attach Scarlet at shoulder seam and work a row of s c all around opening, working 3 s c in each corner st, having an even number of s c between corners, join, cut yarn.
Sleeves—Attach Scarlet in 1st free st at underarm, * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time, 2 s c over d c of next row, 2 d c over side of next 6 rows, 2 s c over next row, join each row, ch 1 to turn each row.
Next Row—Work 1 s c in each s c and 1 d c in each d c, decreasing 3 d c.
Next Row—Work 1 s c in each s c and 1 d c in each d c, decreasing 2 d c.
Next Row—Work 1 s c in each s c and 1 d c in each d c, ch 3 at end of last row.
Next 2 Rows—Work 1 d c in each st, cut yarn at end of last row.
Trim—Attach White in center st on right hand corner of front at neck edge, ch 3, (counts as part of 1st popcorn st) 3 d c in same space, slip loop off hook, insert in 3rd st of ch, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st, * ch 1, skip 1 s c, popcorn st in next st (popcorn st: 4 d c in same space, slip loop off hook, insert in 1st d c, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st), repeat from * to s c before corner st, popcorn st in corner st, popcorn st in next st, * ch 1, skip 1 s c, popcorn st in next s c, repeat from * to next corner, cut yarn.
Collar—With wrong side of work toward you, attach White in 1st free st at right hand corner, work in popcorn st across row in same manner to about ¼ inch from opposite corner, cut yarn.
Cuffs—Attach White at sleeve edge, work a popcorn st in same space, * skip 1 d c, popcorn st in next d c, repeat from * 4 times, join, cut yarn.
BELT—With Black ch 3, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in next st of ch, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row—1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until belt measures 13 inches or desired length, cut yarn.
BUCKLE—With White ch 14, join to form a ring and work 1 sl st in each st of ch, join, cut yarn leaving a length. Thread into needle and sew to opposite side to form a slide for belt. Place buckle on belt.
HAT—With White ch 34, join being careful not to twist ch, ch 3 and work a popcorn st in same space, * ch 1, skip 1 st, popcorn st in next st, repeat from * 15 times, ch 1, join in 1st popcorn st, cut yarn.
2nd Round—Attach Scarlet in same space, s c in same space, 1 s c in each remaining st (34 s c), join each round and ch 3 to turn each round.
Next 4 Rounds—Working in d c, decrease 4 sts evenly spaced.
7th Round—Work even in d c.
8th Round—Working in d c, decrease 4 sts evenly spaced. Repeat the last 2 rounds twice.
13th Round—Decrease 2 sts, cut yarn.
Pompon—Wind White 30 times over a ⅜ inch cardboard, tie one end, trim and shape. Sew to point of hat.
PANTS—Front—With Scarlet ch 22, d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each remaining st of ch, ch 3 to turn all rows.
2nd Row—Working in d c, increase 1 d c at the beginning and end of row. Work 2 rows even in d c.
5th and 6th Rows—Decrease 1 d c at the beginning and end of each row.
7th Row—Start Leg—1 d c in each of the next 8 d c, ch 3, turn. Work 3 rows even.
11th Row—Decrease 1 d c at beginning and end of row, ch 1, turn.
12th Row—Working in s c, decrease 1 s c at the beginning and end of row (to decrease, * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time). Work 1 row even in s c, cut yarn. With wrong side of 6th row toward you, attach Scarlet in 1st free st and work other leg to correspond. Work another section in same manner for back. Sew seams.
BOOT—Upper Section—With Black ch 19, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows.
2nd Row—Working in s c, decrease 1 s c at the beginning and end of row. Work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows once.
6th Row—Same as 2nd row. Work 2 rows even.
9th Row—1 s c in each of the 1st 5 s c, 2 s d c in each of the next 2 s c (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), 1 s c in each of the last 5 s c.
10th Row—1 s c in each of the 1st 5 s c, 1 s d c in next s d c, 2 s d c in each of the next 2 s d c, 1 s d c in next s d c, 1 s c in each of the last 5 sts.
Next 2 Rows—Work 1 s c in each s c and 1 s d c in each s d c working 2 s d c in each of the 2 s d c at center of each row, cut yarn. Sew the 2 side edges together.
SOLE—With Black ch 7, 3 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in next st, 3 d c in last st, working on opposite side of ch, 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, join in 1st s c, cut yarn. Sew sole to upper section. Work another boot in same manner.
Sew boots to legs of pants overlapping the boots. Place pants on doll and fill with kapok. Place jacket on doll and fill upper part with kapok.
EYEBROWS—Cut two ½ inch strips of White and glue in position.
MUSTACHE—Cut three-1 inch lengths of White. Sew together at center, comb and trim. Glue in position.
BEARD—With White and No. 1 hook, ch 20 (about 3 inches), cut yarn.
Cut sixty-4 inch lengths of White. Pull 3 of these lengths through each st of ch. Fold lengths in half, comb and trim as illustrated. Place in position and tack at intervals to hair and collar. Place hat and belt in position.
