For Size 10—4 balls of White or Ecru, or 7 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 6.

YOKE … Starting at neckline, ch 102 (to measure about 13"). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 16 ch, ch 1, dc in next 14 ch, ch 1, dc in next 36 ch, ch 1, dc in next 14 ch, ch 1, dc in next 18 ch. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Working only in the back loop of each st, * make dc in each st to 1 st before ch-1 sp, 2 dc in next st (an inc); in ch-1 sp make dc, ch 1 and dc (2 inc); 2 dc in next st (an inc). Repeat from * 3 more times, dc in each st across, dc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Working in both loops of each st, * make dc in each st to 1 st before ch-1 sp, 2 dc in next st (inc); in next ch-1 sp make dc, ch 1 and dc (2 inc); 2 dc in next sp (inc). Repeat from * 3 more times, dc in each st across, dc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows (2nd and 3rd rows) alternately until there are completed in all

Ch 6 at end of last row, turn.

Next row: Sc in front loop of 1st st, * ch 6, sc in front loop of next st. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 6, sc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. Following row: Holding loops in back of work, make dc in remaining loop of each st of last dc-row. Ch 6, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows once more. Fasten off.

LOWER FRONT … With right side of Yoke facing, attach thread at corner of lower edge of front (all sizes).
On sizes 8 and 10 only, ch 3, dc in both loops of each st across.
On size 10 only, ch 3, dc in both loops of each st across.

To Shape Armholes: 1st and 2nd rows: On all sizes, ch 8, turn. Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch and in both loops of each st across.

3rd to 6th rows incl:

Turn, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch and in both loops of each st across. At end of 6th row, ch 3, turn.

7th row: Dc in both loops of each st across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 7th row until piece measures, from last row of armhole shaping

LOWER BACK … With right side facing, attach thread at corner of lower edge of left back yoke. 1st row: All sizes, ch 3, dc in each st across left back, dc in each st across right back (thus joining the halves into one piece). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in each st across. Ch 3, turn.
On size 8 only, repeat last row once more (3 rows on size 8).
On size 10 only, repeat last row twice more (4 rows on size 10).

To Shape Armholes: Work as for armholes of Front, completing lower half of Back to correspond with lower half of Front. Fasten off.

SLEEVES … Starting at bottom

To shape top, work as follows: 1st row: Sl st across 6 sts, work across to last 6 sts. Ch 3, turn. Hereafter dec 1 st at both ends of each row until 58 sts re­main. Next row: Sl st across 3 sts, work across to last 3 sts. Ch 3, turn. Repeat last row until 16 sts remain. Fasten off.

Sew side seams. Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in, easing in extra fullness across top 3" at shoulder.

NECK FRILL … With wrong side facing, work a row of sc around neck edge, easing in if necessary to fit. Ch 6, turn. 2nd row: Sc in front loop of 1st st, * ch 6, sc in front loop of next st. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Make sc in remaining loop of each st of last sc-row. Ch 6, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows. Fasten off.
   Work 2 rows of sc down left side of back opening. Make five ch-5 loops evenly down right side of back opening. Sew on buttons. Tack a tape at waistline at center back; then tie around waist.
