BACK … Starting at bottom, with No. 2/0 hook, make a chain

1st row: H dc in 3rd ch from hook, and in each ch across until there are (count­ing the turning ch as 1 st)

Ch 2, turn.

2nd row: Working only through the 2 front loops of each st, make h dc in each st across and in top of turning ch. (Make sure that the number of sts in each row remains the same). Repeat the 2nd row for pattern until piece measures

Turn.

To Shape Armholes: Next row: Sl st across 1st 7 sts, ch 2 and continue to work in pattern across to last 6 sts. Ch 2, turn (6 sts decreased at both ends of row). Following row: Dec 1 st at both ends of row—to dec, thread over hook (insert hook in next st and draw loop through) twice; thread over and draw through all 4 loops on hook. Repeat the last row until there remain

Work straight until piece measures, in all

Fasten off.

FRONT (Make 2) … Starting at bot­tom with No. 2/0 hook, make a chain of

1st row: H dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across until there are (count­ing the turning ch as 1 st)

Ch 2, turn. Cut off remaining chain.

Work in pattern as on back until piece measures

Turn.

To Shape Armhole: Next row: Work to 9 sts from end of row, ch 2, turn. Work straight on the remaining sts until piece measures in all, ending at armhole edge

Next row: To shape neck, work to 9 sts from front edge, ch 2, turn. Continue to work in pattern as before, decreasing 1 st at front edge each row, until there remain

Work straight until piece measures, in all

Fasten off.

BUTTON BAND … With No. 8 hook, make a chain (12 ch sts to 1") of

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, until there are

Ch 1, turn. Cut off remaining chain.

2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 1". Fasten off.

BUTTONHOLE BAND … Work same as button band until piece measures ½". Next row: Sc in 3 sc (mark this end of band for top), * ch 3, skip 3 sc, sc in next

Repeat from * until there are 8 button­holes in all. Ch 1, turn.

Following row: Work sc across, making 3 sc over each buttonhole ch. Continue to work as before until piece measures ½" from buttonholes, ending at top of band. Ch 1, turn. Make edging as fol­lows: 1st row: Sc in 1 sc, * ch 3, skip 3 sts, sc in next st. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Working over ch-3 loop make sc, h dc, 3 dc, h dc and sc. Work over each loop in same way to end. Sc in end sc of previous row. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Sc in center of previous ch-3 loop (at base of dc's), ch 3, sc in center of next loop. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Same as 2nd row. Fasten off. Work edging along other side of buttonhole band to correspond. Sew side and shoulder seams. Sew on front bands.

WAISTBAND … Working with No. 8 hook along bottom edge of blouse, work 1 row of sc around, holding waistband in to lit, or to measure

Ch 1, turn.

Continue to work sc in each st across until waistband measures 1¼" in all. Fasten off.

SLEEVES … Starting at bottom with No. 2/0 hook, make a chain of

1st row: H dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures

Work straight in pattern until piece measures

Next row: Sl st across 1st 7 sts, ch 2 and continue to work in pattern across to last 6 sts. Ch 2, turn. Continue to work straight for 3", then dec 1 st at both ends of each row until piece measures, in all

Fasten off.

Cuff … Starting at bottom edge, with No. 8 hook make a chain to measure

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, until row measures

Ch 1, turn. Cut off remaining chain.
Continue to work sc in each sc across until piece measures ½", then work edg­ing same as edging on buttonhole band. Fasten off.

COLLAR … Starting at neck edge, with No. 8 hook make a chain (12 ch sts to 1") to measure

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, until there are

2nd row: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc across, increasing evenly across row to

Ch 1, turn.

Work straight until collar measures 1". Dec 1 st at both ends of next row—to dec, (insert hook in next st and draw loop through) twice; thread over and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Ch 2, turn. Repeat the last row until collar measures 2" in all. Fasten off. Attach thread at one end of starting chain, and work edging around outer edge of collar, as on buttonhole band. Work 1 row of sl st along neck edge, holding in to fit.

FINISHING … With No. 8 hook, work a row of sc around neck line of blouse, holding in to match collar edge. Sew on collar, having front edges of collar at center of front band. Sew on cuffs, shir­ring extra fullness at bottom of sleeve across center 3" of cuff. Sew on buttons. Sew 2 snap fasteners on waistband, and 1 at neck.
