MATERIALS:
  CLARK'S  O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 30:
Small Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.—22 balls of White or Ecru,  and 31 balls of variegated color, or
J. & P. Coats—14 balls of White or  Ecru, and 26 balls of variegated color.
Big Ball:
J. & P. Coats—7 balls of White or  Ecru, and 13 balls of variegated color.
Steel crochet hook No. 10 or 11.
GAUGE: Each motif measures about 3¼ inches in diameter after blocking. For a tablecloth about 54 x 72 inches make 16 x 21 motifs.
FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center with White, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 24 sc in ring. Join with sl st to 1st sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, holding back last loop of each tr on hook made 2 tr in same place as sl st, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (2-tr cluster), ch 5, holding back last loop of each tr on hook make 3 tr in same place as last cluster, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (3-tr cluster), * skip 3 sts, in next st make cluster, ch-5 and cluster. Repeat from * around, joining last cluster with sl st to tip of 1st cluster. 3rd rnd: Ch 4, make a 2-tr cluster in tip of cluster below, * ch 4, make a 2-tr cluster in tip of cluster just made, 3-tr cluster in tip of next cluster below, ch 5, 3-tr cluster in tip of next cluster below. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-5 to tip of 1st cluster. Fasten off. 4th rnd: Attach variegated color to tip of 1st cluster of last rnd, ch 1, sc in same place where thread was attached, * ch 9, sc in tip of next cluster. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4, tr in 1st sc made. 5th rnd: (Ch 4, make a 2-tr cluster in top of joining tr of last rnd, ch 4, sl st in base of cluster) 3 times; * ch 7, sc in center st of loop below, ch 5, make a 2-tr cluster in 5th ch from hook, ch 4, sl st in base of cluster, (ch 4, 2-tr cluster in same place as last cluster, ch 4, sl st in base of cluster) twice. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-7 to base of 1st cluster. 6th rnd: Sl st to tip of 1st cluster, * ch 5, in tip of next cluster make sc, ch 5 and sc; ch 5, sc in tip of each of next 2 clusters. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off.
SECOND  MOTIF … Work as for 1st motif until 5th rnd is completed. 6th rnd: Sl st to tip of 1st cluster, ch 5, sc in tip of next  cluster, ch 2, drop loop from hook, insert hook in any ch-5 loop of 1st motif  and pull loop through, ch 2, sc in tip of same cluster on 2nd motif, ch 5, sc  in tip of each of the next 2 clusters, ch 5, sc in tip of next cluster, ch 2,  join as before to next ch-5 loop of 1st motif, ch 2, sc in tip of same cluster  on 2nd motif. Complete as for 1st motif. Fasten off.
     Make  16 x 21 motifs, joining to adjacent motifs as 2nd motif was joined to 1st  motif, leaving one ch-5 loop free between joinings.
FILL-IN-LACE … With White, ch 6, join. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, ch 7, join to any free ch-5 loop, * ch 7, sc in next sc on ring, ch 14, join to next joining of motifs, ch 14, sc in next sc on ring, ch 7, join to next free ch-5 loop. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. Fill in all sps between motifs in same way.
