MATERIALS:
Clark's O.N.T. Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet (Small Ball), Size 30, 12 balls of No. 126 Spanish Red or any other color, and 4 balls of No. 48 Hunter's Green.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.
A pair of white pillow cases.

FLOWER—CENTER BUD—Petal (Make 3) … 1st row: Starting at bottom with Red, ch 4, 5 dc in 4th ch from hook. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 3 sc in first dc, sc in each dc across, 3 sc in top of starting chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first sc, dc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows once more. 6th row: Work off 3 sts as 1 sc, sc in each dc across to within last 3 sts, work off last 3 sts as 1 sc. Ch 1, turn. 7th row: (Work off 5 sc as 1 sc) twice (2 clusters made). Break off. Sew petals together to form Center Bud.

FIRST ROW OF PETALS—Petal (Make 5) … Work as for Petal of Center Bud until 3 rows are completed. 4th to 7th rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 2 more times. 8th row: Re­peat 6th row of Center Bud. 9th row: Work off 5 sc as 1 sc, sc in each sc across to within last 5 sts, work off last 5 sc as 1 sc. Break off. Attach Red to first sc following cluster on any petal, sc in same place, * sc in each sc across, sc in tip of next cluster, sc in end st along side of next 2 rows, skip cluster on next petal, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across, joining all petals in this manner. Join with sl st to first sc. Break off (top of row).

SECOND ROW OF PETALS (Make 5) … Work as for First Petal until 3 rows are completed. 4th to 9th rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 3 more times. 10th row: Repeat 6th row of Center Bud. Ch 3, turn. 11th row: Skip first sc, dc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 12th row: Work off 5 sc as 1 sc, sc in each st across to within last 5 sts, work off 5 sc as 1 sc. Break off.

THIRD ROW OF PETALS (Make 5) … Work as for First Petal until 3 rows are completed. 4th to 13th rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 5 more times. 14th row: Sl st in next dc, sc in next dc, half dc in next dc, dc in each dc across to within last 3 dc, half dc in next dc, sc in next dc, sl st in next dc. Turn. 15th row: Sl st in next 4 sts, sc in next dc, half dc in next dc, dc in each dc across to within last 3 dc, half dc in next dc, sc in next dc, sl st in next dc. Break off.

LAST ROW OF PETALS (Make 5) … Work as for First Petal until 3 rows are completed. 4th to 15th rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 6 more times. Repeat 14th and 15th rows of Third Row of Petals.

BASE OF FLOWER … Starting at center with Red, ch 4. 1st rnd: 17 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join to top of starting chain. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Sew Center Bud and rows of petals to Base to form flower. Catch petals together on each rnd. Make 2 more flowers in this manner.

LEAF (Make 6) … Starting at center with Green, ch 45. 1st row: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, half dc in next 2 ch, dc in next ch, tr in each ch across to within last 7 ch, dc in next ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next 4 ch, 3 sc in last ch; now, working along opposite side of starting chain, make sc in next 4 ch, half dc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in each ch across to within last 7 sts, dc in next ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in next ch (point of Leaf). Turn. 2nd row: Sl st in next 3 sts, sc in each st across to within last 5 tr. Turn. 3rd row: Sl st in first sc, sc in next 2 sc, half dc in next 2 sc, dc in each sc across to within last 5 sc, half dc in next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, sl st in next sc. Break off. Attach thread to opposite side and work to correspond. Attach thread to center of one side, sc closely around to point, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, sc in each remaining st around. Join and break off.
   Starch lightly and press. Sew Flowers and Leaves in place on pillow case.
