MATERIALS:
Single Size
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 33 balls of White or Ecru, or 52 balls of any color.
Double Size
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 40 balls of White or Ecru, or 64 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 6 or 7.

GAUGE:
Each block measures 5¼ inches before blocking. For a single size spread, about 70 x 108 inches, make 13 x 20 blocks. For a double size spread, about 87 x 108 inches, make 16 x 20 blocks.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, wind thread 10 times around left forefinger. Slip from finger—a ring formed. 1st rnd: 25 s c in ring. Join with sl st to 1st s c made. 2nd rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), d c in next 4 s c, * ch 2, d c in next 5 s c. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, s c in 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 3rd rnd: * Ch 5 (to count as tr tr), make tr tr in same place as last s c and in next 4 d c, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook (a picot), ch 5, s c in same place as last tr tr made (a petal), ch 5, s c in next d c. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, d c in s c at base of 1st ch-5. 4th rnd: Ch 5, 2 tr tr in d c last made, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr tr; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster), ch 5, make a 3-tr tr cluster in same place as last cluster was made, * ch 5, s c in next p, ch 5, in center st of next ch-5 make two 3-tr tr clusters with ch-5 between. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, sl st in tip of 1st cluster made. 5th rnd: Sl st to center st of next ch-5, ch 5, and complete a cluster in same place as last sl st, ch 5, make a 3-tr tr cluster in same place as last cluster was made, * ch 5. In next s c make two 3-tr tr clusters with ch-5 between, ch 5, skip next ch-5; in center st of next ch-5 (between clusters) make two 3-tr tr clusters with ch-5 between. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, sl st in tip of 1st cluster made.
   6th rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3 (to count as d c), 6 d c in same sp, * 7 d c in next sp. Repeat from * around. Sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 7th rnd: S c in same place as sl st, * ch 4, skip 4 sts, s c in next st, ch 4, skip 4 sts, half d c in next st, ch 4, skip 4 sts, d c in next st, ch 4, skip 4 sts. In next st make tr, ch 5 and tr (corner); ch 4, skip 4 sts, d c in next st, ch 4, skip 4 sts, half d c in next st, ch 4, skip 4 sts, s c in next st. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-4 with sl st to 1st s c made. 8th rnd: S c in same place as sl st, * 4 s c in next sp, s c in next st, ch 4, half d c in next half d c, ch 4, d c in next d c, ch 4, tr in next tr, ch 2. In center st of corner ch-5 make tr, ch 5 and tr. Ch 2, tr in next tr, ch 4, d c in next d c, ch 4, half d c in next half d c, ch 4, s c in next s c. Repeat from * around. Join. 9th rnd: Ch 3, * d c in next 5 s c; (4 d c in next sp, d c in next st) 3 times. Make 2 d c in next sp, d c in next st, 2 d c in next sp, 3 d c in center st of corner ch-5, 2 d c in same corner sp, d c in next st, 2 d c in next sp, d c in next st. Make (4 d c in next sp, d c in next st) 3 times. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. This completes one motif.
   Make necessary number of motifs and sew them together on wrong side with neat over-and-over stitches. Block to measurements given.
