Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" SOCK and SWEATER YARN
1 oz. each Canary and Lt. Gray or colors of your choice.
Aluminum crochet hook size H.
1 yd. ⅜ - inch Yellow grosgrain ribbon.
GAUGE: 9 sts = 2 inches. 7 rounds = 2 inches.
Hat is worked loosely and all the s c are pulled up about ½ inch.
With Gray, ch 2, 6 s c in 2nd st from hook, do not join this or following rounds. Place a marker at beginning of each round.
2nd Round: S c in next s c, * ch 1, s c in next s c, repeat from * all around.
3rd Round: * Ch 1, 1 s c, ch 1, 1 s c in next ch 1 space (an increase), ch 1, s c in next ch 1 space (pattern), repeat from * twice.
4th Round: * Ch 1, 1 s c, ch 1, 1 s c in next ch 1 space, ch 1, s c in next ch 1 space, ch 1, s c in next ch 1 space, repeat from * twice.
5th through 12th Rounds: Work in pattern same as last round increasing 3 patterns in each round but placing increases between increases of previous round.
13th through 16th Rounds: Work in pattern same as last round, but increasing twice in each round.
17th through 21st Rounds: Work in pattern same as last round, but increasing 1 pattern in each round. Work even in pattern until piece measures 6 ½ inches from beginning.
Next Round: Work in pattern increasing in every 5th pattern. Work 3 rounds even, ch 1, sl st in next st, cut yarn. The wrong side of work is the right side of hat. With Canary work another section in same manner.
Place the Gray section on top of Canary section and sew last round of each section together neatly.
Using a 28-inch length of ribbon, lace through spaces about 1 ½ inches from lower edge lacing over about 1 inch of hat and under next inch of hat lacing through both sections at the same time. Tie in double knot on inside of hat. Take remainder of ribbon and loop over one lacing on outside of hat as illustrated.
