HIEROGLYPHICS FASTENER

Cut four pieces of thread selected, each 6 inches long. Tie a knot at one end, holding the 4 threads together. 1st row: Attach thread at the knot end of this cord and work 50 s c over cord. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Work 1 s c in each of next 40 s c. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sl st in each of next 5 sts, s c in each of remaining s c to end of row, ch 1, turn. 4th row: S c in each s c to within 5 s c from end of previous row. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 3rd and 4th rows alternately, thus decreasing 5 sts at a time on one end (keeping the opposite end straight) until 5 s c remain in the last row. Break off.

Holding the loose end of the cord (which has been worked over) pull it until the swirl effect is obtained. Then fasten this end underneath, as in illustration. Make another one same as this. If desired to use as a fastener, tack one end and fasten the other end with a snap fastener.
