Directions are given for "STAR" Cotton Yarn and "STAR" Rug Yarn. "AUNT LYDIA" Heavy Rug Yarn is given in parenthesis.

With Yellow ch 29 (26) s d c in 8th st from hook (s d c: yarn over needle, insert in st, pull through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), * ch 2, skip 2 sts of ch, s d c in next st, repeat from * across row, ch 5, turn.

2nd Row. S d c in next s d c, * ch 2, s d c in next s d c, repeat from * across row ending row with ch 2, skip 2 sts of ch, s d c in next st, ch 5, turn.

Repeat 2nd row 10 (6) times, break yarn.

The pattern is darned in using 2 strands of yarn, working 3 rows crosswise through each mesh, working over 1 s d c and under the next, reversing the over and under in next row. Darn 2 (1) meshes in Yellow, 1 (1) mesh in Red, 1 row Red, 1 row Yellow, 1 row Red in next mesh, 4 (2) meshes in Yellow, 1 row Red, 1 row Yellow, 1 row Red in next mesh, 1 (1) mesh in Red, 2 (1) meshes in Yellow. Attach Red in corner and work a row of s c alI around working 3 s c in center st at each corner.

With Yellow cover a bone ring with s c and attach to holder as illustrated.
