GAUGE: 2 shells make 1 inch; 4½ rows make 1 inch.

PLACE MAT … Starting at narrow end with Skipper Blue, make a chain 18 inches long. 1st row: 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, * skip next 3 ch, in next ch make sc, ch 3 and 3 dc (shell made). Repeat from * until row measures 12 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 3 dc in first sc, * shell over next ch-3 bar. Repeat from * across, ending with sc over last ch-3 bar. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row until 15 rows in all have been completed. Break off and turn. Next row: Attach Blue Jewel to first sc, ch 3, 3 dc in same sc, work in pattern across. Continue to work in pattern until 15 rows of Blue Jewel have been completed. Break off and turn. Attach Crystal Blue and work in pattern for 15 more rows. Continue to work in pat­tern, making 15 rows each of Skipper Blue and Blue Jewel. Block to measurements.

GLASS JACKET—Bottom … Starting at center with Blue Jewel, work as for Tartan Place Mat & Glass Jacket Pattern.

Side Piece … 1st row: Attach Blue Jewel to back loop of any sc, ch 3, 3 dc in same sc, * skip 3 sc, shell in next sc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc. Ch 3, turn. Work in pattern, making 4 rows in all of Blue Jewel, 4 rows each of Skipper Blue and Crystal Blue. Break off. Sew up opening.
