“Boye” Crochet Hook, Size E (2).
GAUGE: 7 sts = 1 inch
RIGHT GLOVE—Palm—Ch 33, draw up a loop in 2nd st from hook and in each st to end keeping all loops on hook; 33 loops. Work off as follows: yo and through end loop, * yo and through 2 loops; repeat from * to end.
Row 2—The loop on hook is first st of row. * With yarn in front of hook, insert hook in vertical bar of next st, bring yarn below hook to back of work, yo and through vertical bar on hook (a purled afghan st), with yarn at back of work, draw up a loop in next vertical bar (a plain afghan st); repeat from * to end, inserting hook in both vertical bars of last st to keep an even edge. Work off all loops, same as before.
Row 3—With loop on hook, * work 1 plain afghan st in next vertical bar, 1 purled afghan st in next vertical bar; repeat from * to end, always insert hook in both bars of last st. Work off as before.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 for pat. until 4½ ins. from beg.
Thumb—Ch 9 loosely, draw up a loop in 2nd st from hook and in each st of ch; 8 loops, work pat. until there are 22 loops on hook; work off loops. Work on these 22 sts for 2½ ins.
Dec. row—* Insert hook under 2 vertical bars, draw up a loop *; repeat between *’s 9 times; draw up a loop in last st inserting hook in both vertical bars; 12 loops. Work off.
Repeat dec. row repeating between *’s 5 times; 7 loops. Work off. Draw up a loop in each st, yo and through all loops, ch 1. Fasten off leaving an end. Sew side seam of thumb.
Join yarn in first st of foundation ch of thumb. Draw up a loop in each of 9 chs, continue pat. on next 20 sts of palm; 29 loops. Work off. Work even until 6½ ins. from beginning, end with 29 loops on hook.
Fourth Finger—Work off until there are 24 loops on hook; keep last loop on hook and slip remaining 23 loops on holder; ch 2 for gusset, draw up a loop in 2nd st from hook, work next 6 sts with care to keep pat.; 8 loops on hook. Work off. Work pat. even until 2¼ ins. from gusset sts.
Dec. row—* Draw up 1 loop through next 2 vertical bars; repeat from *, end draw up 1 loop in last st; 5 loops. Work off. Draw up a loop in each st; yo and through all 5 loops, ch 1. Fasten off, leaving an end. Slip 23 loops from holder to hook. Join yarn in last st on hook, insert hook in space before next vertical bar, and in 2nd ch of gusset and draw up a loop; 24 loops. Work off. Work 1 more row.
Third Finger—Work pat. until 24 loops on hook; work off until 17 loops on hook. Keep last loop on hook, slip remaining 16 loops on holder. Ch 2 for gusset, draw up 1 loop in 2nd st, work next 8 sts. Continue pat. on 10 sts until 3 ins. from last gusset sts. Dec. and finish as for 4th finger.
Second Finger—Slip 16 loops from holder to hook, join yarn in last st on hook, insert hook in space before next vertical bar and in 2nd ch of gusset and draw up a loop; 17 loops. Work off until 9 loops on hook. Keep last loop on hook, slip remaining 8 loops to holder. Ch 2 for gusset, draw up a loop in 2nd st from hook, work pat. on next 9 sts; 11 loops. Work off. Work 3¼ ins. even on these 11 sts. Dec. and finish as for other fingers.
First Finger—Slip 8 loops to hook. Join yarn in last st on hook, insert hook in space before next vertical bar and in first ch of gusset and draw up a loop, draw up 1 loop in 2nd ch of gusset; 10 loops. Work 3 ins. even on these 10 sts. Dec. and finish as for other fingers.
BACK—Ch 29, work pat. as for palm for 6½ ins.
Fourth Finger—Join separate strand of yarn in space before 7th st, ch 2 for gusset, fasten off 2nd strand. Work pat. until 6 loops on hook, draw up 1 loop in each of 2 ch sts; 8 loops. Finish same as 4th finger of palm. Join yarn and draw up a loop in first ch of gusset. Continue pat. on next 23 sts; 24 loops. Work off. Work 1 more row on 24 sts.
Third Finger—Join separate strand of yarn in space before 9th vertical bar, ch 2; break off 2nd strand. Work pat. until 8 loops on hook, work 2 loops on ch; 10 loops. Finish as for 3rd finger of palm.
Second Finger—Join yarn in space before 9th vertical bar, ch 2 for gusset; fasten off. Join yarn and draw up 1 loop in first ch of gusset of 3rd finger, work pat. on next 8 sts, draw up 2 loops on ch; 11 loops. Finish same as second finger of palm.
First Finger—Join yarn in first ch of gusset, draw up 2 loops on foundation ch of gusset, work pattern on last 8 sts; 10 loops. Finish same as first finger of palm.
LEFT GLOVE—Palm—Work same as palm of right glove until 4½ ins.
Thumb—Join a separate strand of yarn in last st, ch 9; fasten off.
Next row—Work 33 pattern loops, draw up 1 loop in each of 9 ch sts of thumb; 42 loops. Work off until 21 loops on hook. Keep 1 loop on hook, place remaining 20 loops on holder for palm. Work even on 22 thumb sts for 2½ ins. Finish same as thumb of right glove. Sew side seam of thumb. Slip 20 loops from holder to hook, join yarn in next space, draw up 1 loop in each of the 9 sts of foundation ch; 29 loops. Work even on 29 sts until 6½ ins. from beginning. Work fingers same as for back of right glove.
Back—Work same as back of right glove to beginning of fingers. Work fingers as for palm of right glove.
FINISHING—Steam each piece separately. Beginning on outer edge, 2 inches above cuff end, sew sides of back and palm together with a weaving st, sewing around fingers in same way. Turn under 1 inch for cuff and hem to wrong side, leaving 1 inch open at outer edge.
