Medium Size

MATERIALS: Fleisher’s or Bear Brand Machine Washable Win-Sport, 2 ozs.

About 40 yards each Contrasting Colors A and B for Embroidery.

“Boye” Crochet Hook, Size F (4).

GAUGE: 5 sts = 1 inch; 5 rows = 1 inch.

RIGHT GLOVE—Ch 40 for 4th finger and palm.

Row 1—1 sc in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch; 39 sts.

Row 2—Ch 1, turn, working through both loops of st, work 1 sc in first st; 1 sc in back loop of each of next 5 sts for cuff, working through both loops, 1 sc in each st to within 1 st of end, 2 sc in last st, an inc. for finger tip; 40 sts.

Row 3—Ch 1, turn, working through both loops, draw up a loop in each of first 2 sts, yo and through 3 loops, a dec., 1 sc in each st to within 6 sts of end, 1 sc in back loop of each of next 5 sts, working through both loops, 1 sc in last st; 39 sts.

Note: Always work 6 sts of cuff as in rows 2 and 3, work remaining sts through both loops of st.

Row 4—Ch 1, work 6 sts of cuff, 1 sc in each of next 21 sts, ch 15 for 3rd finger.

Row 5—Turn, work 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch and in each st to end; 41 sts.

Row 6—Ch 1, turn, work 1 sc in each st, increasing 1 st in last st; 42 sts.

Row 7—Ch 1, turn, dec. 1 st at beg. of row, work to end; 41 sts.

Row 8—Ch 1, turn, work cuff, 1 sc in each of next 21 sts, ch 17 for 2nd finger.

Row 9—Turn, work 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch and in each st to end; 43 sts.

Row 10—Beg. of Thumb—Ch 1, turn, work cuff, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts; ch 15 for thumb, work 1 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch and in each st to within 1 st of end of 2nd finger, 2 sc in last st; 58 sts.

Row 11—Ch 1, turn, dec. 1 st, 1 sc in each of next 39 sts—tip of thumb, working on other side of ch, 1 sc in each of 14 sts of thumb, 1 sc in each st to end; 71 sts.

Row 12—Ch 1, turn, work 55 sts including thumb, ch 16 for first finger.

Row 13—Turn, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook and in each remaining st of ch, 1 sc in each st to end; 70 sts.

Row 14—Work 1 row sc increasing 1 st in last st; 71 sts.

Row 15—Ch 1, turn, dec. 1 st, 1 sc in each of next 38 sts—tip of thumb—, fold thumb double, work 1 sc inserting hook in next st and in last st worked, work 13 more sc through both edges of thumb, 1 sc in each st to end.

Row 16—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st to end of first finger; 42 sts.

Gussets—1 sc in end st of each of 3 rows of first finger tip, continue down side of finger and around all fingers and side of glove working 3 sc across each finger tip, end at cuff.

Back of Glove—Fourth Finger—Row 1—Ch 1, turn, work 6 sts of cuff as before, 1 sc in each of next 31 sts; 37 sts.

Row 2—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st to end; 37 sts.

Row 3—Ch 1, turn, work 37 sts, skipping side edge of rows, 1 sc in next st on finger, 2 sc in next st; 40 sts.

Row 4—Ch 1, turn, dec. 1 st, 1 sc in each st to end; 39 sts.

Row 5—Ch 1, turn, work 39 sts, 1 sc on side edge of last st worked, 1 sc in end st of each of last 2 rows; 42 sts.

Row 6—Joining row—Fold finger same as thumb, work 1 sc inserting hook in next st and in last st worked, working through both edges as on thumb, work to base of next finger, leaving remaining 27 sts of hand free.

Third Finger—Row 1—Work 1 sc in each of 12 sts on side of 3rd finger.

Row 2—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 12 sts of finger and the 27 sts of hand.

Row 3—Ch 1, turn, work 39 sts, skip edge of rows, 1 sc in next st on finger, 2 sc in next st; 42 sts.

Row 4—Ch 1, turn, dec. 1 st, 1 sc in each st to end; 41 sts.

Row 5—Ch 1, turn, work 41 sts, 1 sc in side edge of last st, 1 sc in end st of each of last 2 rows; 44 sts.

Row 6—Same as row 6 of 4th finger.

Work Second Finger in same way as 3rd finger working 14 sc on side of 2nd finger.

Work First Finger in same way working 13 sc on side of first finger. After working joining row on first finger continue joining to end of cuff. Fasten off. Turn inside out.

LEFT GLOVE—Work palm as for right glove, ending with row 14. On row 15 fold thumb in opposite directions from first glove. Finish to correspond, joining fingers from same side of thumb.

EMBROIDERY—Embroider stripes on back of hand as follows: Thread double strand A into tapestry needle, beg. on first st above cuff on first row of first finger, weave under 1 st and over 1 st to tip of finger, then alternate and weave over 1 st and under 1 st of same row to cuff, with care not to draw too tightly, keeping work flat.

With double strand B, begin on first st above cuff on 2nd row of first finger and weave same as for first stripe. Continue in this way alternating colors until there are 9 A stripes and 8 B stripes.

Button—Ch 3, join with slip st to form ring, work 15 sc in ring, fasten off leaving an end; thread end in needle, draw sts tog. tightly. Fasten securely. Make 2 in color A and 2 in color B. Sew to cuff as illustrated. Steam.
