And so out to the race track at Santa Anita, where our heroine dons this three piece suit Bonnet, Jacket and Skirt. If you will notice the suit has a trimming of angora (or contrasting color) and the jacket has the smartest short flared sleeves, - and, if you please, buttons down the front. Bonnet ties under the chin. (Confidentially – right after the races) went to the Brown Derby, was discovered, given a movie contract and is now making her first picture.

1 Bone Crochet Hook, size 2
Material—1 two ounce ball Sport yarn, 20 yards of Angora, 4 small pearl buttons.
Gauge—7 sts to 1 inch s c.

JACKET

   Back—Ch 19 sts, s c in 2nd ch from hook, s c to end of ch, ch 1, turn. Row 2—Inc 2 s c in next row. Row 3—Work even. Row 4—Inc 2 s c. Rows 5, 6, 7 & 8—Work even (22 s c), Ch 1, turn, * s c, to within last 2 sts, ch 1, turn, repeat from * once, ch 1, turn, work even until you have 18 rows from beginning. Ch 1, turn, s c over 4 sts for shoulder for 1 row. Ch 1, turn, work 2 s c for slanting shoulder, break thread. Work 1½ rows on other shoulder to correspond.
   Front—Ch 11 sts, s c in 2nd ch from hook, s c to end of ch, ch 1, turn. Row 2—Inc 1 st. Row 3—Work even. Row 4—Inc 1 st. Rows 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9—Work even. Ch 1, turn, s c to within last 3 sts, ch 1, turn, work even until you have 18 rows from beginning. Ch 1, turn, s c over 4 sts for shoulder for 3 rows. Ch 1, turn, work 2 s c for slanting shoulder, break thread. Work another front exactly in same manner. Sew to back at shoulders and underarm.
   Frill at sleeve—Fasten thread at center of underarm and work 26 s c around armhole. Row 2—Work 3 s c in first 3 sts, 3 h d c (Y O needle, insert needle thru next st, Y O needle, draw thru, Y O needle draw thru all sts), in next 3 sts. Work 2 d c in each st to within the last six sts. Work 3 h d c in next 3 sts, 3 s c in last 3 sts, join with a sl st, ch 1. Row 3—Work same as row 2, but do not increase, break thread. With Angora, work 1 row of s c around frill at sleeve. Work 1 row around jacket, starting at bottom of right front and ending at top of left front. Work 4 loops of ch 3, for buttonholes. Sew buttons on left side.

SKIRT

   Ch 34 sts, to measure 5½ inches, work 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook, work 1 s c to end of row. Row 2—Ch 1, turn, work 1 s c in each st. Row 3—Repeat Row 2. Row 4—Ch 1, turn, * work 1 s c in next 3 sts, 2 s c in next st, repeat from * across row, thus increasing every 4th st, Row 5 & 6—Inc in every 6th st. Rows 7 & 8—Inc in every 8th st. Row 9—Inc in every 7th st. Rows 10, 11 & 12—Inc in every 12th st. Join at beg of row with a sl st, ch 1, turn. Rows 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 & 18—Inc in every 25th st, join. With Angora, s c in each st around skirt.

PANTIES

   Ch 36, work 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook, 1 s c in each ch to end of row. Row 2—Ch 3, turn, work 1 d c in each st, increasing 5 d c across row. Repeat row 2, 2 more times, join with a sl st, ch 3, turn. Work 3 rows of d c without increasing, join with a sl st. Sl st 1 more st. * Ch 2, turn, work 3 d c in next 3 sts, repeat from * 2 more times, break thread. Fold panties in half and sew to other side. With Angora, work 26 s c around each leg.

BONNET

   Ch 3, join, ch 1, work 7 s c in ring. Row 2—Work 2 s c in each st. Row 3—* Work 1 s c in next st, 2 s c in next st, repeat from * around row. Row 4—* Work 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, 2 s c in next st, repeat from * around row. Now inc in every 5th st until you have 56 sts around. Work even until you have 15 rows. On 16th row dec 4 sts spaced at equal distances apart. Brim—Ch 1, turn, work 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, 2 h d c in next 2 sts, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * around to within 18 sts at beginning of row. Work 2 h d c in next 2 sts, 2 s c in next 2 sts, ch 1, turn. Row 2—Work 3 s c in first 3 sts, 2 h d c in next 2 sts, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 4 sts, repeat from * across row to within last 5 sts at beg of row below, 2 h d c in next 2 sts, 2 s c in next 2 sts. Ch 1, turn. Row 3—Repeat row 2. Row 4—Work 1 s c in each of the first 6 sts, 2 h d c in next 2 sts, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 6 sts, repeat from * to within last 9 sts, 2 h d c in next 2 sts, 6 s c in next 6 sts, break thread. Sew cord at beginning of brim. With Angora, work 1 row of s c over cord to end of brim. Sew cord and fasten off Angora. In 2nd row in 3rd st fasten yarn and ch 40 sts on each side of brim to tie.
