This free pattern originally published in the Woolco Knitting & Crocheting Manual, in 1916.

MATERIAL-2 skeins of white and 1 skein of color Woolco Germantown Zephyr. No. 4 Woolco hook. 1 ¼ yards ribbon.
With white chain 3. Join.
1ST ROW-7 single crochet in ring.
2D AND 3D ROWS-2 single crochet in each stitch, taking both loops.
4TH ROW-*1 single crochet in 1st stitch, 2 in next stitch*.
5TH ROW-*1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 in next stitch*. Increase in this way until there are 12 stitches between each widening.
13TH ROW-1 single crochet in each stitch.
14TH ROW-Decrease 1 every 3d stitch.
15TH TO 20TH ROW-Same as 13th row.
21ST ROW-Chain 1, turn, make 60 stitches.
22D TO 30TH ROW-Even. Fasten off.
TURN BACK-1ST ROW-Holding wrong side toward you, with color, make 1 row of single crochet taking back loop. Turn, chain 1.
2D ROW-Single crochet taking both loops.
3D ROW-1 single crochet in 1st stitch, *1 double crochet taking stitch around the 2d stitch in 1st row, skip 1 stitch, 1 single crochet in each of next 3 stitches. Repeat between stars. Fasten off.
4TH AND 5TH ROWS-With white, repeat 2d and 3d rows. Repeat from 2d row until there are 3 rows of color and 2 of white. Across the back, with white, make 4 rows of single crochet taking both loops. Make a picot of 1 single crochet, 3 chain and 1 single crochet on each end of the turn over and across back.
