Crochet Hook Size G.

GAUGE: 4 sc = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch.

SOLE (make 2) ... Starting at center, ch 26 (28, 30). 1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook (heel), sc in next 9 (10, 11) ch, h dc in next 2 ch, dc in next 12 (13, 14) ch; 7 dc in last ch (toe). Working along opposite side of starting chain, dc in next 12 (13, 14) ch, h dc in next 2 ch, sc in next 9 (10, 11) ch. Do not join, but work in rnds. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in first sc, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice—3 sts increased; sc in each of the next 24 (26, 28) sts, 2 sc in each of the next 5 dc—5 sts in­creased, sc in each st to end of rnd. 3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 3 sts evenly spaced across heel and increasing 3 sts at tip of toe. 4th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 3 sts evenly spaced across heel and 3 sts evenly spaced across toe. 5th and 6th rnds: Repeat 4th rnd. Break off and fasten. Cut a piece of heavy cardboard slightly smaller than soles. Insert cardboard between the 2 soles and slip st both soles together—right side. Break off and fasten.

TOP ... Starting at instep edge, ch 28. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across—27 sc. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Picking up front loop only throughout, sc in first sc, draw up a loop in each of the next 2 sc, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook—1 sc dec, sc in next 10 sc, 3 sc in next sc—2 sc increased, sc in next 10 sc, dec 1 sc as before, sc in last sc—27 sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd and all un­even rows: Picking up back loop only throughout, sc in each sc across—the same number of sts as on last row. NOTE: On all even rows, pick up front loop only through­out. 4th row: Sc in first sc, (dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice; sc in each sc to center sc of 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc, sc in each sc to last 5 sc, (dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice; sc in last sc—2 sc less than on last row. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: Sc in first sc, dec 1 sc, sc in each sc to center sc, 3 sc in center sc, sc in each sc to last 3 sc, dec 1 sc, sc in last sc—the same number of sc's as on last row. Ch 1, turn. Repeat last 4 rows (3rd through 6th row) twice more, then repeat 3rd row once. Do not break off. Ch 1, keeping work flat, sc across one side edge, ch 1, sl st in each ch of starting chain work center 3 sts tog, ch 1, sc across other side edge. Break off and fasten. Block lightly. Pin top to right side of sole, placing point at center of toe and working through all thick­nesses slip st in place.
