Irish Rose Collar and Cuffs Pattern #2032

Materials:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls of Size 70, White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 12 or 13.

Cuffs: Ch 38, turn. 1st row: S c in 8th ch from hook, * ch 5, skip 3 sts, s c in next. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: S c under 1st loop, * ch 5, s c under next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 3rd and 4th rows: Same as 2nd. 5th row: Make 3 ch-loops (turning ch counts as 1 loop), then ch 1, and under next loop make 5 d c's with ch-1 between (a shell), ch 1, s c under next loop. Finish row with 3 loops. Ch 5, turn.

6th row: Make loops to shell, then s c under ch-1 between 1st and 2nd d c's of shell, ch 5, s c under ch-1 between 4th and 5th d c's. Finish row with loops. Ch 5, turn. 7th row: Same as 2nd. 8th row: 2 loops (turning ch counts as 1 loop), shell under next loop, ch 1, s c under next loop, ch 1, shell under next, ch 1, s c under next and finish row with 2 loops. Ch 5, turn. 9th row: Make loops across, working into the two shells as in 6th row. 10th to 15th rows incl: Same as 2nd.

Repeat 5th to 15th rows 6 more times (7 groups of shell pattern) and finish with 4 rows of loops. Do not break off. Start edging along side. Work tightly 3 s c's in each loop along side (to curve lower edge of cuff). At corner, s c in corner loop, ch 4, d c in other side of same st of foundation ch in which s c is worked, ch 5, s c in 5th ch from hook (for picot), d c in same st as 1st d c. * Skip 3 sts, d c in next st, picot, d c in same st, repeat from * across end. In corner loop work 3 d c with picot between. Continue edging along other side, working the d c's into each s c at edge. Work other end to correspond and fasten off.

Bow: Ch 38. Work 2 rows same as for cuff. 3rd to 10th rows incl: Same as 2nd row. 11th row: Same as 5th row of cuff. 12th row: Loops to shell, then * ch 2, d c over next ch-1 (a space), repeat from * 5 more times, then ch 2, finish with loops. Ch 5, turn. 13th row: Loops to sps, then * ch 2, d c over next sp, repeat from * 6 more times and finish with loops. Ch 5, turn. 14th row: Same as 2nd, making s c's between loops in sps.

15th row: Same as 2nd. Break off. Attach thread at foundation ch and work other side of bow the same. Make edging along sides, same as on top edging of cuff. Across ends make a picot, s c in loop, picot and s c in next loop, etc.

Rosette: Ch 8, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 6, * d c into ring, ch 3, repeat from * 4 more times. Join last ch-3 to 3rd st of ch-6. 2nd rnd: * Under next ch-3, work 1 s c, 1 half d c, 2 d c, 1 half d c, 1 s c. Repeat from * around. 3rd rnd: * Ch 4, s c in next d c of 1st rnd (under petal). Repeat from * around.

4th rnd: * Under next ch-4, work 1 s c, 1 half d c, 4 d c, 1 half d c, 1 s c. Repeat from * around. 5th rnd: * Ch 6, s c between next 2 petals, repeat from * around. 6th rnd: * Under next ch-6, work 1 s c, 1 half d c, 5 d c, 1 half d c, 1 s c. Repeat from * around and fasten off. Plait bow at center and sew on rosette. Sew to cuff as in illustration.

Collar: Repeat directions for making cuff – adding 3 or more groups of shell motifs to make this half of collar desired size. At end of 4th row of loops after last group of motifs, ch 35, turn. S c in 8th ch from hook, * ch 5, skip 3 sts, s c in next, repeat from * along ch, then continue making loops under those of previous row. Make another row of loops and on the next row make 3 loops, a shell, 6 loops, a shell, finish with 3 loops. Make 3 mesh rows, then work two groups of 2 shells over the single shells to complete motifs as worked before. Work 7 rows of loops, and on edge on which ch-35 was added, work another motif. On the same row that last motif is started, decrease 1 loop each row on the other side of work. Finish with 4 rows of loops.

On neckline edge work tightly a row of 3 s c in each loop as for cuff, and around other edges with d c and picot edging as before. Make another piece just like this and join the 2 pieces only at the loops where decreases were made on the last 10 rows. Take a plait at this joining and sew on bow with rosette as on cuffs.
