REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 4 ounces of 3-ply Baby Yarn.
CROCHET HOOK: 1 Plastic No. 3.

SWEATER: Starting at the neck edge make a very loose chain of 87 sts. 1st row: Make 1 d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each of the next 11 chain sts; 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 16 sts; 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 23 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 16 sts; 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the remaining 13 sts. Ch 3, turn. Note: Hereafter when working d c pick up the back loop of the sts and when increasing use both loops of the sts on the row below. 2nd row: Skip first d c, 1 d c in each of the next 13 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 18 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 25 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 18 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in last 14 sts. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first d c, 1 d c in next 14 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 20 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 27 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 20 sts, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in last 15 sts. Continue in this manner increasing 8 sts on a row until the 10th row has been completed, (165 sts in the complete row). Ch 1, turn; 1 s c in first 24 sts, chain 6, skip 36 sts for sleeve; 1 s c in next 45 sts; chain 6, skip 36 sts for 2nd sleeve; 1 s c in last 24 sts. Ch 5, turn.

PATTERNRow 1: Skip 2 sts, * 1 s c in next st, ch 5, skip 1 st; repeat from * across row, ending with 1 s c in last st (52 loops). Ch 5, turn. Row 2: * 1 s c in center st of ch-5, chain 3, repeat from * across row, ending with s c in center st of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Row 3: Make 3 d c over each ch-3 space. Ch 1, turn. Row 4: Working loosely, make 1 slip st in each d c across row. Ch 5, turn. Row 5: * Skip 2 sts, 1 s c in next st, ch 5, repeat from * across row, ending with 1 s c in last st. Ch 5, turn. Repeat rows 2 to 5 inclusive for the pattern. Work until the piece measures 6 inches from the underarm, ending with row 5. Break yarn.

NECK EDGE: Tie yarn at the right hand corner of neck edge. Ch 3, 1 d c in next st, * ch 2, skip 1 st, 1 d c in next 2 sts; repeat from * across neck edge, ending with 1 d c in last 2 sts. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: * 1 s c over ch-2 space, ch 5, repeat from * across neck edge, ending with ch 5, 1 s c in top of last d c. Break yarn.

SLEEVES: Tie yarn at the center of the underarm ch-6. With the right side of the work facing you, make 42 s c around the armhole, do not join. Work in the pattern as on the sweater for 5 inches, ending with row 5. Break yarn leaving 12 inches. Sew up sleeve. Make the other sleeve the same way.

BONNET: Chain 4, join with a slip st to form a ring. Make 6 s c into ring. 2nd rd: 2 s c in each st around (12 sts). Mark the beginning of the round with a colored thread as an aid in counting the rounds. 3rd rd: * 1 s c in next st, 2 s c in next st; repeat from * around once. 4th rd: * 1 s c in next 2 sts, 2 s c in next st; repeat from * around once. Having 1 more stitch between each increase, keep increasing 6 sts on a round until you have 12 sts between each increase (84 sts). Ch 1, turn; 1 s c in next 69 sts, leaving 15 sts for back of neck. Ch 5, turn. Row 1: Skip 2 sts, 1 s c in next st, * ch 5, skip 1 st, 1 s c in next st; repeat from * across row (34 loops). Now work in the pattern as on the sweater for 5 inches from last s c row, ending with row 5. Fold back an inch at front edge; tack down at each side. Neck edge: With the right side of the work facing you, make 64 s c across the neck edge. Ch 1, turn. Make 3 rows of s c. Break yarn. Trim with ribbon.

BOOTIES: Chain 10 sts loosely, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining chain st. Ch 1, turn; 1 s c in each st across row. Make 7 more rows of s c. Chain 30 sts loosely for ankle chain; slip st to opposite corner. Make 9 s c along side of instep; 9 s c across toe; 9 s c along 2nd side of instep; 1 s c in each of the 30 chain sts. Make 9 more rows of s c. Break yarn. Upper part: With the wrong side of work facing you, tie yarn at center of ankle chain; working along opposite side of ankle chain, make 1 s c in each chain, 1 s c in each of the instep sts, 1 s c in each remaining chain st. Do not join. Ch 5, turn. Row 1: * Skip 2 sts, 1 s c in next st, ch 5, repeat from * around (13 loops). Now work in the pattern as on the sweater until the piece measures 2½ inches. Break yarn, leaving 10 inches. Sew up back of bootie. Sew sole. Trim with ribbon.
