Dainty Dress Pattern

SIZE 3-4 YEARS

MATERIALS REQUIRED
American Thread Company "Sillateen," "Sansil."
22 Balls White or Cream.
1 Ball Peach or any contrasting color.
Steel Crochet Hook #9 or 10.

Gauge—Yoke
23 d c = 2 inches; 9 rows = 2 inches

BACK YOKE. Ch 54, d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each remaining ch, ch 3, turn (Work should measure about 4½-inches).
2nd Row. 1 d c in 2nd d c, ** ch 1, skip 1 d c, puff st in next st, (puff st * thread over hook, insert in st and pull up the length of a d c, repeat from * twice, thread over, pull through all loops but 1, thread over, pull through 2 loops) repeat from ** across row ending with 2 d c, ch 3, turn.
3rd Row. 1 d c in d c and 1 d c in each ch and puff st, ch 3, turn. The last 2 rows form the pattern of yoke. Work 9 more rows even.
13th Row. Begin shoulder decreases. Omit the last 2 puff sts.
14th Row. Sl st to 6th d c, ch 3, work to end of row.
15th Row. Begin shaping neck. Sl st to 1st puff st, ch 1, s c in ch, s d c over puff st, d c across row omitting the last 2 puff sts.
16th Row. Sl st to 6th d c, ch 3, d c in next d c, work 7 puff sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 s d c in next st, s c in next st, ch 1, turn.
17th Row. Sl st to 5th puff st, ch 3, d c over ch, d c in next puff st, break thread and work other half of back yoke to correspond.
FRONT YOKE. Ch 108 and work 1st 12 rows even (Work should measure about 9½-inches).
13th Row. Sl st to ch past the 2nd puff st, ch 3, work 34 d c, 1 s d c, 1 s c, ch 1, turn.
14th Row. Sl st over s c, s d c and 4 d c, s c in next st, s d c in next st and continue row omitting the last 5 d c, ch 1, turn.
15th Row. Sl st to ch past the 2nd puff st, ch 3, work 14 d c, 1 s d c, 1 s c, ch 1, turn.
16th Row. Sl st to 3rd d c, 1 s c, 1 s d c, 2 puff st, ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 d c in next st, ch 1, turn.
17th Row. Sl st to ch beyond the 1 st puff st, ch 3, d c over puff st and next ch, break thread and complete other side of front yoke to correspond.
SKIRT. Join thread to lower edge of front yoke, ch 3, d c in each of the next 2 d c, * ch 2, skip 1 d c, d c in next d c, ch 2, d c in same d c, repeat from * across row ending row with 3 d c, ch 3, turn.
2nd Row. 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, * ch 5, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 1, skip 1 loop, d c in next loop, ch 3, d c in same loop, repeat from * across row ending with 3 d c, break thread and repeat these 2 rows across 1 section of back yoke, break thread.
Join thread to lower back edge of 2nd half of back yoke, repeat the 2 rows of skirt pattern, ch 3, turn, d c in each of the next 2 d c, * picot loop, 2 d c with ch 3 between in next loop, repeat from * across row ending with 3 d c, ch 18 pick up front yoke, work 3 d c and continue across front yoke ending with 3 d c, ch 18 and work across other half of back yoke in same manner, ch 3, turn.
4th Row. Work same as last row working 1 s c in each ch st at underarm.
5th Row. Work same as last row to underarm, d c in 2nd d c, ch 3, d c in same space, * picot loop, skip 2 sts, 2 d c with ch 3 between in next st, repeat from * 5 times, continue pattern across front yoke and work other underarm to correspond, complete row, ch 3, turn, work 3 more rows, then join skirt with a sl st.
Sl st to 2nd d c, ch 6, d c in same space, picot loop, continue pattern to last picot loop, work last picot loop, d c in 2nd d c, ch 3, d c in same space, picot loop, sl st in 3rd st of ch.
Next Row. Sl st into loop, ch 6, d c in same space, continue pattern all around joining row in 3rd st of ch. Repeat the last row until skirt measures 15 inches or is the length desired.
Sleeves are worked right into the armhole. Sew shoulder seams. Join thread in 3rd right hand row from shoulder seam and work 1 s c, * picot loop, 2 d c with ch 3 between over end st of next row, repeat from *, picot loop, 2 d c with ch 3 between in shoulder seam,* picot loop, 2 d c with ch 3 between over next d c, repeat from * twice, 1 s c over each of the next 2 d c, * ch 1, turn, work a pattern over each pattern, picot loop, 2 d c with ch 3 between in same space with last s c of previous row, 1 s c over each of the next 2 d c, repeat from * until pattern is worked around entire armhole. When working into s c at underarm skip 3 s c and work 3 s c at end of each row before turning and complete a pattern in last row. Work 2 rows of pattern all around.
Next Row. Work 1 s c in each d c and 1 s c in each picot then work 1 row of d c. Finish sleeve with beading.
BEADING FOR FRONT AND BACK YOKES AND SLEEVES. Ch 10, work 9 s c over ch, ch 3, turn. 1 d c in 2nd sc, * ch 9, 1 d c in each of the last 2 sts, ch 3, turn, d c in 2nd d c, ch 9, 1 d c in d c and end ch, ch 3, turn, d c in d c, ch 5, s c over the two 9 ch loops, ch 5, d c in d c and end ch, ch 3 turn, d c in 2nd d c and repeat from * for length required and finish with 2 rows as follows; ch 3, d c in 2nd d c, ch 5, 1 d c in last d c and end ch, ch 1, turn, 1 s c in each d c and st of ch. Without breaking thread work the following scallop across long side; d c over 1st d c, ch 1, d c in same space, repeat from * twice, s c over next d c, shell over next d c, s c over next d c, repeat from * across edge and work other side to correspond, break thread. Join color between 2 d c, * ch 4, sl st between next 2 d c, repeat from * across row. Sew beading in position placing the yoke beading above the skirt and lace with ribbon as illustrated. Finish neck of dress with scallop same as scallop on beading.
Work 54 s c down each side of back of dress then across 1 side work 1 s c, * ch 4, skip 3 s c, s c in each of the next 3 s c, repeat from * 5 times (6 buttonholes down yoke) continue s c on skirt and other side of back opening.
