Afghan measures 52 x 78 inches.

CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E.232: 48 skeins (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 1 White; 34 skeins of No. 909 Scar­let; 6 skeins of No. 848 Skipper Blue; 1 skein each of No. 12 Black and No. 229 Lt. Yellow.

Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No. 5.

MOTIF (Make 96)Flower … Starting at center with Black, ch 2. 1st rnd: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join and break off. 2nd rnd: Attach Skipper Blue to first sc and, working loosely, * ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make 2 tr in same sc, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 4, sl st in same sc, sl st in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off (8 petals).
   Now work motif as follows: With Scarlet, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Sl st in ring, ch 5, with wrong side of Flower facing, sl st in tip of any petal on Flower, ch 5, sl st in ring, * ch 5, sl st in tip of next petal, ch 5, sl st in ring. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. 2nd rnd: With right side of Flower facing, attach Scarlet to ch-5 loop following sl st at tip of any petal, sc in same place, * ch 3, sc in next ch-5 loop preceding sl st of next petal, sc in loop fol­lowing sl st. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in last free ch-5 loop. Join. 3rd rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3, in same sp make 2 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc; * make 3 dc in next sp, in next sp make 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join to top of ch-3. Break off. 4th rnd: Attach White to any corner sp, ch 3, in same sp make 2 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc, * dc in each dc to next corner sp, in corner sp make 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join.
   Now work in rows as follows: 1st row: Sl st to center ch of corner, sl st in sp, ch 3, dc in each dc to next corner sp, in corner sp make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc; dc in each dc to next corner sp, dc in sp. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each dc to next sp, 3 sc in sp, sc in each dc across, sc in top of ch-3. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first sc, dc in next sc and in each sc to within center sc of corner, in corner sc make 2 dc, ch 3 and 2 dc; dc in each remaining sc. Ch 1, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows. Now work around motif as follows: 1st rnd: Ch 1 and work a row of sc around all 4 sides, having 3 sc in corners and 23 sc on each side. Join and break off. 2nd rnd: Attach Scarlet to center sc at any corner, 3 sc in same place, sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc at each corner. Join and break off.
   With single strand of Scarlet embroider 2 stems in chain st, and with 2 strands embroider 2 leaves in lazy daisy st as illustrated. With Yellow fasten center of flower to motif by making a row of back sts around Black section. Sew motifs neatly together in pattern (see illustration), making 8 rows of 12 motifs.

EDGING 1st rnd: Attach Scarlet to any corner, make 3 sc in same place, sc closely around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. 2nd rnd: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in each corner sc. Join and break off. Block to measurements.
