MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein)-5 skeins each of Dark and Light Colors
OR
Columbia-Minerva Nantuk 4 ply Knitting Yarn (Knitting Worsted size-2 or 4 oz skein)-20 ounces each of Dark and Light Colors

1 "Boye" Crochet Hook "H" (Size 6) and 1 "Hiawatha" blunt end tapestry needle

Gauge: 1 pat to 1 inch; square measures 5 ¼ inches

ONE SQUARE: Ch 20. (ch should measure 5 inches). Row 1-1 dc in 4th ch from hook, skip 3 ch, * 1 sc in next ch, ch 3, 1 dc in same ch, skip 3 ch, repeat from * 2 times more, 1 sc in last ch, ch 3, turn. Row 2-1 dc in last sc of previous row, * 1 sc in next sc, ch 3, 1 dc in same st, repeat from * 2 times more, ending 1 sc in turning ch, ch 3, turn. Repeat Row 2 nine times more (11 rows). Piece should now measure 4 ½ inches square. Do not break yarn. Ch 5, 1 dc in same st, ch 2, working down side, space evenly (1 dc, ch 2) 4 times, 1 dc in corner, ch 2, 1 dc in same st, continue around square in this manner, break yarn and fasten.

AFGHAN: Make 50 Light Color and 49 Dark Color squares.

TO JOIN: Sew squares tog on wrong side, alternating colors and having 9 in width and 11 in length. Place 1 Light Color square at each end of first and last rows.

BORDER: Attach Dark Color at one corner. Work 3 rows of sc around entire Afghan, working 3 sc in each corner to keep border flat. Break yarn and fasten.
