Potholder Pattern #9419

MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 2 balls of Ecru and 1 ball of Hunter’s Green … Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 ... A bone ring.

With Ecru make a chain about 8 inches long (9 ch sts to an inch). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 6 ch, (ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next 7 ch) 6 times. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn, 2nd and 3rd rows: Dc in next 6 dc, (ch 2, dc in next 7 dc) 6 times, making last dc in top st of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. At end of 3rd row, ch 5, turn. 4th row: * Skip 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 2. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top st of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 5th row: * (2 dc in sp, dc in next dc) twice; ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * across, ending with 2 dc in last sp, dc in center st of turning chain. Repeat 2nd to 5th rows incl until piece is square, ending with the 3rd row. Break off. Using 4 strands of Green throughout, make a loop, insert hook in 1st sp, draw this loop through sp and loop on hook (sl st). Sl st through each sp to top. Break off. Work in this manner along all rows of sps, thus forming squares. Make another piece same as this. Sew on bone ring.

PADDING … Cut flannel or cotton batting slightly smaller, and lining material slightly larger, than crocheted piece. Place padding between crocheted piece and lining. Turn under edges of lining and sew to edges of crocheted piece with neat over-and-over stitches. For pot holders consisting of 2 crocheted pieces, insert padding between crochet and sew up edges.
