A three-leaf Clover design (in Irish Crochet of course).

Materials Required—AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" or "GEM" MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Size 20 or 30
26—300 Yd. Balls White or Colors.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 11 or 12.

Each Motif measures about 3 inches. Cloth 17 x 24 motifs measures about 52 x 72 inches.

SQUARE MOTIF. Ch 6, 6 tr c in 6th st from hook, ch 1, turn, 1 s c in each tr c, ch 6, turn, 1 tr c in each s c hold­ing the last loop of each tr c on hook, thread over, pull through 2 loops, thread over and pull through all loops on needle (cluster st), * ch 5, s c in 5th st from hook for a picot, ch 6, turn, 6 tr c in 6th st from hook, ch 1, turn, 1 s c in each tr c, ch 7, sl st in end of s c row on side of previous oval, ch 1, turn and over the ch 7, work 2 s c, ch 5, sl st in last s c for picot, 2 s c, p, 2 s c, p. 2 s c, sl st in next s c, ch 6, tr c in same s c, 1 tr c in each of the next 5 s c working all 6 tr c into a cluster st same as previous oval. Ch 5, s c in 5th st from hook for a picot, ch 6, turn, 5 tr c in 6th st from hook, ch 1, turn, 1 s c in each tr c, ch 7, sl st in side of previous oval, ch 1, turn, and over ch 7 work 2 s c, p, 2 s c, p, 2 s c, p, 2 s c, sl st in next s c, ch 6, 1 tr c in same s c, 1 tr c in each of the next 5 s c worked into a 5 tr c cluster st, ch 5, sl st in cluster st for a picot, ch 6, s c in center side of this oval, ch 5, sl st in base of oval, ** ch 6, 6 tr c in 6th st from hook, ch 1, turn, 1 s c in each tr c, ch 7, sl st in side of last oval, ch 1, turn and over ch 7 work 2 s c, p, 2 s c, p, 2 s c, p, 2 s c, sl st in next s c, ch 6, tr c in same s c and tr c in each s c worked into a cluster st, repeat from * twice and from * to **. Join work with a sl st in starting st, sl st up to center side of 1st oval, ch 7, turn, sl st in center side of last oval, ch 1, turn and over ch 7 work 2 s c, p, 2 s c, p, 2 s c, p, 2 s c, fasten thread.

CENTER OF MOTIF. Ch 8, sl st in 5th st from hook for picot, ch 3, join with a sl st to center picot of one loop of motif, ch 7, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 3, sl st in starting point, * ch 7, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 3, sl st in center p of next loop, ch 7, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 3, sl st in starting point, repeat from * twice.

PICOT MOTIF. Join motifs by picots at each corner. Ch 10, join, ch 1 and work 16 s c into ring, sl st in 1st s c to join.
2nd Row. * Ch 6, s c in next s c, repeat from * 14 times, ch 3, d c in next s c.
3rd Row. * Ch 8, skip 1 loop, s c in next loop, repeat from * 6 times, ch 4, skip 1 loop, d c in next loop.

EDGE. Join at corner, * ch 6, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, repeat from * twice, ch 2, skip 1 picot on cloth, s c in next picot, 3 picot loop, ch 2, d c in picot between the 2 ovals on cloth, 3 picot loop, ch 2, skip 1 picot, s c in next picot, 3 picot loop, ch 2, s c in top of next oval, 6 picot loop, ch 2, s c in center picot loop of next motif, 6 picot loop, ch 2, s c in top of next oval of next motif and continue all around in same manner.
