Materials Required—AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" CROCHET COTTON, Size 30, White

1–150 Yd. Ball Will Make 2 Doilies.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 11 or 12.

Doily measures about 5 x 9½ inches.

Ch 7, tr c into first st of ch, * ch 2, tr c in same space, repeat from * 5 times, ch 2, join in 5th st of ch 7.

2nd Row. * 2 s c in loop, ch 4, 2 s c in same loop, repeat from * all around, join.

3rd Row. Ch 12, tr c over next tr c of 1st row, * ch 7, tr c over next tr c, repeat from * 5 times, ch 7, join in 5th st of ch 12.

4th Row. Ch 1, 9 s c over loop, * ch 1, turn, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each remaining s c, repeat from * until 1 s c remains, ** ch 16, sl st in next tr c, ch 1 and work 9 s c over next loop, * ch 1, turn, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each remaining s c, repeat from * until there are 2 s c in row, tr tr c (4 times over needle) in 8th st of ch 16, turn and work 1 s c in petal and repeat from ** 6 times, ch 8, tr tr c into next tr c, ch 8, join in 1st petal.

5th Row. Ch 1, * 11 s c over next loop, 6 s c over next loop, ch 8, turn, sl st in center s c of last scallop, ch 1, turn, over 8 ch loop work 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c, sl st in top of last s c in previous scallop and finish scallop with 5 s c, repeat from * all around, break thread and work a second motif joining it to 1st motif in the last row as follows. Work 11 sc over next loop, 6 s c over next loop, ch 8, turn, sl st in center of last scallop, ch 1, turn and over loop work, 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c, sl st in top of last s c in previous scallop and complete scallop with 5 s c, ** 11 s c over next loop, 6 s c over next loop, ch 8, turn, sl st in center of last scallop, ch 1, turn, 4 s c over loop, * ch 2, sl st into corresponding picot of 1st motif, ch 2, 4 s c over loop, repeat from * and complete scallop, repeat from ** and complete second motif same as 1st motif.

Work a third motif joining it in same manner leaving 2 scallops on each side of motif free, break thread.

With wrong side of work toward you and working on center motif, join thread in right hand joining of motif and s c in same place, ch 9, d c over next petal, ch 9, s c between next 2 picots, ch 9, d c over next petal, ch 9, s c between next 2 picots, ch 9, d c over next petal, ch 9, s c in joining of next 2 motifs, ch 1, turn, * 13 s c over next loop, 7 s c over next loop, ch 8, turn, sl st into center of last scallop, ch 1, turn and over loop work, 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c and complete previous scallop with 6 s c, repeat from * twice. Sl st across s c to point of petal in next motif, ch 6, turn, d c in s c over joining of motif, ch 6, * d c in base of next scallop, ch 6, s c between next 2 picots, ch 6, d c in base of other side of scallop, ch 6, d c between next 2 scallops, ch 6, repeat from * twice, working the last d c in joining of motif, ch 6, s c over point of next petal of next motif, ch 1, turn. Over next 6 loops work, 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c, 9 s c in next loop, 5 s c in next loop, ch 7, turn, sl st in center of last scallop, ch 1, turn, work 3 s c, ch 4, 3 s c, ch 4, 3 s c over 7 ch loop and complete previous scallop with 4 s c. Over remaining 6 loops work, 4 s c, ch 4, 4 s c, break thread and work other side of center motif to correspond.

Two of these doilies will make attractive epaulets.
