Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" MEDIUM WEIGHT POMPADOUR or "DAWN" NYLON or NYLON POMPADOUR
2 ozs. Baby Blue or color of your choice.
Afghan hook No. 6.
Plastic crochet hook size E.
2 yds. 1 inch ribbon.
1 yd. ¼ inch ribbon.
GAUGE: 6 sts = 1 inch.
With size E hook chain (ch) 4, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 6 single crochet (s c) in ring, do not join this or following rounds. Place a marker at beginning of each round.
2nd Round. 2 s c in each s c (12 s c).
3rd Round. * 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * all around.
4th Round. * 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * all around. Continue increasing in same manner having 1 stitch (st) more between increases on each round, until there are 12 sts between increases.
Next Round. 1 s c in each s c increasing 2 sts evenly spaced, join (86 sts). Center measures 4 ½ inches in diameter. With afghan hook pull a loop through the next 74 sts picking up the whole st and keeping all loops on hook, yarn over hook, draw yarn through first loop (post of st), * yarn over hook, draw through 2 loops, repeat from * across row.
2nd Row. The loop on hook is first st of row, with yarn in back of work pick up a loop in each of the next 3 sts inserting hook under post of st, all sts are worked in same manner, * place yarn in front of work and pick up a loop in each of the next 3 sts, this is a purled afghan st, with yarn in back of work, draw up a loop in each of the next 4 sts, this is a plain afghan st, repeat from * across row leaving all sts on hook.
3rd Row. Draw yarn through first loop, * yam over and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows for pattern. Work even in pattern for 3 inches.
Next Row. With size E hook work 70 s c across row picking up the full st, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. 1 s c in each s c, turn.
Next Row. Ch 3, 3 double crochet (d c) in first s c, * skip 2 s c, s c in next s c, ch 3, 3 d c in same space (shell), repeat from * across row, cut yarn.
With right side of work toward you, work 1 s c in each s c in the first s c row working in back of shell row.
Next 2 Rows. 1 s c in each s c, ch 1 to turn each row.
Next Row. 1 s c in each s c, turn.
Next Row. Ch 3, 3 d c in first s c, * skip 2 s c, s c in next s c, ch 3, 3 d c in same space, repeat from * across row, cut yarn. With wrong side of work toward you, work 54 s c across lower edge of Cap.
Next Row. 1 s c in each of the next 19 s c, decrease in next 2 sts (to decrease: * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the remaining 19 s c, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. 1 s c in each of the next 18 s c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 4 s c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 s c in each remaining st, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. 1 s c in each of the next 16 s c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 s c in each remaining st, cut yarn.
Trim Cap with ribbon as illustrated.
With afghan hook chain (ch) 35, pull up 35 loops on chain and work in pattern same as on Cap for 1 ½ inches.
Next Row. With size E hook, ch 1, 1 s c in each st picking up the full st (35 s c), ch 3, turn.
Next Row. BEADING: Skip next s c, short double crochet (s d c) in next st (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), * ch 1, skip 1 st, s d c in next st, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. 2 s c in each mesh, cut yarn (34 s c).
Next Row. INSTEP: With afghan hook and right side of work toward you, attach yarn in the 12th s c, pull a loop through each of the 12 sts and work in pattern same as on Cap for 2 inches, starting and ending pattern with 1 plain afghan st.
Next Row. With size E hook, work 1 s c in each st, 1 s c in each st on side of instep, 1 s c in each s c to back of work (heel), join and work other side to correspond, join in 1st s c.
Next Row. Ch 1, 1 s c in each s c, decreasing 3 sts evenly spaced around toe, join.
Next 2 Rows. 1 s c in each s c, join each row.
Next Row. Working in back loop of sts only, work 1 s c in each s c, join.
Next 3 Rows. Working through both loops of sts, 1 s c in each s c, join each row.
Next Row. 1 s c in each s c, decreasing 3 sts evenly spaced at toe and 3 sts at heel.
Next Row. 1 s c in each s c, decreasing 2 sts evenly spaced at toe and 2 sts at heel, join, cut yarn. Sew sole and back seam.
Attach yarn at back seam of bootie and work 33 s c around top of bootie.
Next Row. Work a row of shells same as on Cap, join, cut yarn. Lace ribbon through beading.
