COATS & CLARK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E. 232 (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 1 skein each of No. 848 Skipper Blue and No. 990 Roses; 2 skeins each of No. 980 Oranges and No. 818 Blue Jewel; 3 skeins of No. 970 Greens; and

GAUGE: 25 sts = 6½ inches; 19 rows = 6½ inches.

MOTIF (Make 54) … With White ch 25 to measure 6¾ inches. Work in afghan st until 19 rows have been made, then sc around outer edge (motif should measure 7 inches square).
CENTER … With White ch 81 to measure 21½ inches. Work in afghan st until 60 rows have been made, then sc around outer edge (center should measure 21 inches square).
EMBROIDERY … Examine diagram for making cross sts over afghan st. Being sure to have starting chain at bottom of each piece, embroider 10 motifs following Chart A, 10 motifs following Chart B, 4 motifs following Chart C, then the Center.
Following diagram, sew motifs neatly together with White.
BORDER … 1st rnd (right side): Attach White and sc closely around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. 2nd rnd: With White, sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. Drop White. Attach Blue Jewel. 3rd rnd: With Blue Jewel, repeat 2nd rnd. Break off Blue Jewel. 4th and 5th rnds: Repeat 2nd rnd. Break off at end of 5th rnd. Block to size.
