Sparkler Bags Pattern

This bag, too, can be formal—with a Frame Top, right, or casual — with a Drawstring. Directions cover both purse-onalities.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
DRITZ Sparkle Belastraw Art. 146, 2 tubes for Frame Bag; 3 tubes for Drawstring Bag
DRITZ Bag Frame No. 6225
DRITZ Metal Crochet Hook No. 2
Lining material and crinoline

GAUGE: 6 sc = 1"

FRAME BAG

BOTTOM: Starting at center ch 23 to meas­ure 3½".
1st rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 20 ch, 3 sc in last ch; then working along opposite side of starting chain make sc in base of 20 sc (46 sc). Mark last st of every rnd to insure proper shaping.
2nd rnd: * 3 sc in next sc (corner), sc in next, 3 sc in next (corner), sc in 20 sc. Repeat from * once more (4 corners—54 sc).
3rd rnd: Sc in next sc, 3 sc in next (corner), sc in 3 sc, 3 sc in next (corner), sc in 22 sc, 3 sc in next (corner), sc in 3 sc, 3 sc in next (corner), sc in 21 sc (4 corners—62 sc).
4th rnd: * Sc in each sc to center sc of next corner, 3 sc in center sc. Repeat from * 3 more times; sc in each remaining sc of rnd (70 sc).
5th to 10th rnds incl: Repeat 4th rnd (118 sc). Work sc to center st of next corner, then work sl st loosely in each sc. Cut a piece of cardboard same size as crocheted piece.

SIDE: Hereafter work in back loop only of each st.
1st rnd: 2 sc in next sc (behind sl sts), sc in next, * skip next sc, 5 dc in next, skip next sc, sc in next 4 sc. Repeat from * around ending with sc in last sc (17 points). Mark last st of every rnd.
2nd rnd: * Skip 2 sc, sc in sc, sc in 2 dc, 5 sc in next dc, sc in 2 dc, sc in sc. Repeat from * around.
3rd rnd: Skip 1 sc, * sc in 4 sc, 5 sc in next sc, sc in 4 sc, skip 2 sc. Repeat from * around ending with sc in 4 sc.
4th rnd: * Skip 2 sc, sc in 5 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in 5 sc. Repeat from * around.
5th to 21st rnds incl: Repeat 4th rnd.
22nd rnd: * Skip 2 sc, hdc in 3 sc, sc in 5 sc, hdc in 3 sc. Repeat from * around.
23rd rnd: * Skip 2 sts, hdc in 2 hdc, sc in 5 sc, hdc in 2 hdc. Repeat from * around.
24th rnd: * Skip 2 sts, sc in hdc, sc in 5 sc, sc in hdc. Repeat from * around.
25th rnd: * Skip 2 sts, sc in 5 sc. Repeat from * around.
26th rnd: Sc in each sc. End off. Tack cardboard to inside bottom of bag. Mount on Dritz Bag Frame No. 6225. Line with lining material reinforced with crinoline.

DRAWSTRING BAG

Work same as Frame Bag until 21st rnd of Side is completed. Then work sc in each sc to center sc of next point, sc in center sc.

BEADING: * Ch 6, sc in center sc of next point. Repeat from * around joining last ch-6 with sl st in 1st sc. Ch 1, turn.

EDGING: Working in each sc and in each ch st repeat 1st rnd of Side. Then repeat 2nd to 5th rnds incl. Work sl st loosely in each sc. Join and end off. Line with lining material.

DRAWSTRING (make 2): Cut four 2½ yd. strands of Belastraw. Follow directions for Twisted Cord on patternbook page.
