Easter Parade Hat & Bag Sets Pattern

A thrill for both — Sparkle Belastraw accenting matching hats and "go-together" bags. "Materials" lists requirements for all four.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
DRITZ Luxury Belastraw Art. 110, Mother's Bag, 2 tubes; Mother's Plat, Daughter's Bag, Daughter's Hat, 1 tube each DRITZ Sparkle Belastraw Art. 146, 1 tube for each of above items
DRITZ Bag Frame No. 6229/5¼
DRITZ Metal Crochet Hook No. 2
Lining material and crinoline

GAUGE: 1 shell = 1”

MOTHER'S BAG

BOTTOM: With Luxury Belastraw ch 20 to measure 3".
1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 17 ch, 5 sc in last ch; then working along oppo­site side of starting chain make sc in base of 17 sc (44 sc). Mark last st of every rnd to insure proper shaping.
2nd rnd: * 2 sc in each of 5 sc, sc in 17 sc. Repeat from * once more (54 sc).
3rd rnd: * Sc in 2 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 4 times; sc in 17 sc. Repeat from * once more (62 sc).
4th to 9th rnds incl: Sc in each sc increas­ing 4 sc evenly across each end (110 sc at end of 9th rnd).
10th rnd: Sc in each sc (no increases).
11th rnd: Sl st loosely in each sc. End off.
Cut a piece of cardboard same size as crocheted piece.

SIDE: With wrong side of Bottom facing at­tach Sparkle Belastraw in an sc at center of 1 end of Bottom.
1st rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place where yarn was attached, * skip 2 sc, sc in next, skip 1 sc, in next sc make 3 dc, ch 1 and 3 dc (shell). Repeat from * around ending with 3 dc and ch 1 in same place as first 2 dc. Join with sl st in top of starting ch-3 (22 shells). Drop Sparkle, pick up Luxury, ch 1, turn.
2nd rnd: * Sc in next ch-1 sp, shell in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * around. Join. Drop Luxury, pick up Sparkle, ch 3, turn.
3rd rnd: 2 dc in same place as sl st, * sc in next ch-1 sp, shell in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * around ending with 3 dc and ch 1 in same place as first 2 dc. Join. Drop Sparkle, pick up Luxury, ch 1, turn.
4th to 15th rnds incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rnds alternately 6 more times. Join and end off Sparkle. Ch 1, turn.
16th rnd: Work 5 sc evenly across center of each shell. Join.
17th rnd: Ch 1, sc in each sc. Join and end off. Tack cardboard to inside of Bottom. Mount on Dritz Bag Frame No. 6229/5¼. Line with lining material reinforced with crinoline.

HANDLE (make 2): With Luxury ch 7. Join with sl st to form ring.
1st rnd: Sc in each ch (7 sc).
2nd rnd: * Sc in the single horizontal loop at back of next sc (do not work in the 2 top loops of the sc—they will turn in to center of tube). Repeat from * until piece measures 14". End off. Sew ends of Handles to top edges of Bag on both sides of frame having 3" space between ends.

DAUGHTER'S BAG

BOTTOM: With Luxury Belastraw ch 15 to measure 2¼".
1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 12 ch, 5 sc in last ch; then working along oppo­site side of starting chain make sc in base of 12 sc (34 sc). Mark last st of every rnd to insure proper shaping.
2nd rnd: * 2 sc in each of 5 sc, sc in 12 sc. Repeat from * once more (44 sc).
3rd rnd: * Sc in 2 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 4 times; sc in 12 sc. Repeat from * once more (52 sc).
4th, 5th and 6th rnds: Sc in each sc in­creasing 4 sc evenly across each end (76 sc at end of 6th rnd).
7th rnd: Sc in each sc.
8th rnd: Sl st loosely in each sc. End off.
Cut a piece of cardboard same size as crocheted piece.

SIDE: Work same as Side of Mother's Bag (15 shells) until 15 rnds are completed. End off Luxury Belastraw and continue with Sparkle.

BEADING: Ch 8, * dc in center of next shell, ch 5. Repeat from * around joining last ch-5 with sl st in 3rd st of starting ch-8.

EDGING: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 1, in ch-5 sp make hdc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, tr, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook, tr, ch 1, dc, ch 1 and hdc; ch 1, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join and end off. Line with lining material.

DRAWSTRING (make 2): Cut two 2-yd. strands of Luxury and two 2-yd. strands of Sparkle. Follow directions for Twisted Cord on patternbook page.

MOTHER'S HAT

With Luxury Belastraw ch 40.
1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 37 ch, 5 sc in last ch, sc in base of 37 sc (84 sc). Drop Luxury, pick up Sparkle, turn.
2nd rnd: Working in the back loops of sc's work same as 1st rnd of Side of Mother's Bag (17 shells).
3rd to 18th rnds incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rnds of Mother's Bag 8 times. Then work sl st loosely in each st around. End off.

DAUGHTER'S HAT

With Luxury Belastraw ch 33.
1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in 30 ch, 5 sc in last ch, sc in base of 30 sc (70 sc). Drop Luxury, pick up Sparkle, turn.
2nd to 16th rnds incl: Work same as Mother's Hat (15 shells). Then work sl st loosely in each st around. End off.
