Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "GEM" MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Article 35, size 30
1 ball each Iridescent No. 1, Shaded Browns and Nile Green
Steel crochet hook No. 12
1 pr. hemstitched pillow cases

With Green ch 4, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each st of ch, ch 1 to turn each row.
2nd Row—Working in s c, increase 1 st at beginning of row and 3 sts at end of row.
3rd, 4th and 5th Rows—Working in s c increase in last st in each row.
6th Row—increase 1 s c in 1st s c.
7th Row—1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, turn.
8th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row (to decrease: insert hook in next st, pull loop through, insert hook in next st, pull loop through, thread over and pull through all loops at one time).
9th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row. Work 1 row even.
11th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row, increase 1 st at end of row. Work 1 row even.
13th Row—Repeat 11th row.
14th Row—Increase 1 st at beginning of row, decrease 1 st at end of row.
15th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row, increase 2 sts at end of row.
16th Row—Repeat 14th row.
17th Row—Repeat 11th row.
18th Row—Increase 1 st at beginning of row.
19th Row—Repeat 15th row. Work 1 row even.
21st Row—Repeat 11th row.
22nd Row—1 s c in each s c, ch 24, turn.
23rd Row—S c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 tr c in each of the next 8 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 sl st in each of the next 3 sts, 1 sl st in each of the next 7 s c.
24th Row—Increase 1 st at beginning of row, increase 2 sts at end of row (33 s c).
25th Row—Repeat 18th row.
26th Row—Increase 1 s c at end of row.
27th Row—Repeat 18th row.
28th Row—Repeat 26th row.
29th Row—Repeat 14th row.
30th Row—Repeat 26th row.
31st Row—Repeat 14th row.

42nd Row—Decrease 2 sts at beginning of row. Work 1 row even, cut thread.
44th Row—Attach Iridescent, ch 3, d c in 1st s c, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, * skip 3 s c, 2 d c, ch 3, 2 d c (shell) in next s c, repeat from * 7 times, ch 3 to turn each row.
45th Row—Work a shell in each of the next 8 shells, s c in last shell.
46th Row—Work 8 shells, turn.
47th Row—Work 7 shells, s c in last shell. Work 1 row even, turn.
49th Row—Ch 4, 1 tr c, ch 3, 2 tr c in next shell, 2 tr c, ch 3, 2 tr c (tr c shell) in next shell, work 5 more shells, ch 3, 2 tr c in same space as last shell (an increase), ch 4 to turn each row. Remainder of tail is worked with tr c shells.
50th Row—Work 1 shell in each ch 3 loop (8 shells). Repeat last row 4 times ending last row with s c in last shell (a decrease), ch 4, turn.
55th Row—2 tr c, ch 3, 2 tr c in 1st shell, * shell in next shell, repeat from * across row, working 2 shells with ch 3 between in last shell, ch 4, turn. Work 1 row even working a shell in each ch 3 loop.
57th Row—Same as 55th row.
58th and 59th Rows—Work even omitting last shell in last row, ch 4, turn.
60th Row—Work 2 shells with ch 3 between in 1st shell, shell in each shell, s c in last shell, ch 4, turn.
61st and 62nd Rows—Repeat 58th and 59th rows.
63rd Row—Work 6 shells, ch 4, turn.
64th Row—Shell in 1st shell, ch 3, 2 tr c in same shell, shell in each of the next 4 shells, turn.
65th Row—Sl st to 2nd shell, shell in same loop, shell in each ch 3 loop, ch 3, 2 tr c in last ch 4 loop, ch 4, turn.
66th and 67th Rows—Work 2 shells with ch 3 between in 1st ch 3 loop, shell in each shell omitting last shell, ch 4, turn.
68th Row—1 tr c, ch 3, 2 tr c in 2nd tr c, ch 3, shell in next ch 3 loop, shell in each of the next 5 shells, turn.
69th Row—Sl st to 2nd shell, ch 4, tr c in same shell, shell in each of the next 4 loops, ch 4, turn.
70th Row—Shell in each shell, 2 shells with ch 3 between in last shell, turn.
71st Row—Sl st over the first 3 shells, ch 4, shell in next shell, ch 4, sl st between next 2 shells, cut thread. Attach thread in 1st ch 4 loop of 57th row, ch 4 working down side of tail, shell over each of the next 3 rows, s c in 2nd tr c of 60th row, ch 4, turn.
2nd Row—Shell in each of the next 2 shells, ch 4, turn.
3rd Row—1 tr c, ch 3, 2 tr c in loop of shell, shell in next shell, shell over ch 4 loop at end of row, shell in 1st shell of 61st row, 2 tr c in next shell already worked in, s c over ch 4 of next row, ch 4, turn.
4th Row—Shell in each of the next 3 shells, ch 4, turn.
5th Row—2 shells with ch 3 between in 1st shell, shell in each of the next 2 shells, shell over ch 4 loop, shell in next shell, turn.
6th Row—Sl st to 2nd shell, shell in same shell, shell in each ch 3 loop, turn.
7th Row—Sl st to 2nd shell, shell in same shell, shell in next 3 shells, turn.
8th Row—Sl st to 2nd shell, shell in same shell, shell in next shell, 2 shells with ch 3 between in next shell, ch 3, 2 tr c over last ch 4 loop, ch 4, turn.
9th Row—Work even omitting last shell, turn.
10th Row—Sl st to 2nd shell, shell in same shell, shell in each of the next 2 shells, turn.
11th Row—Sl st to 2nd shell, shell in same shell, shell in last shell, cut thread.

CREST—Attach Green in 1st row of s c at back of head, ch 9, 4 s c in 2nd st from hook, cut thread. Attach thread in same space, ch 13, 4 s c in 2nd st from hook, cut thread. Attach thread in same space, ch 9, 4 s c in 2nd st from hook, cut thread.
With Black embroider eye using French Knot.
Appliqué peacock to pillow case as illustrated. Cut away material from underneath tail part of bird, leaving ⅛ inch to turn under and overcast.

EDGE—Attach Green at side of tail and work a row of s c around lower edge of pillow case to opposite side, ch 5, turn.
2nd Row—Skip 3 s c, s c in next s c, * ch 5, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * to same space at opposite side.
3rd Row—Ch 1, turn, 3 s c in 1st loop, ch 3, sl st in top of last s c for picot, 2 s c in same loop, * 3 s c in next loop, ch 3, sl st in top of last s c for picot, 2 s c in same space, repeat from * all around to same space at opposite side, cut thread.

BRANCH—With Shaded Browns ch 80, s d c in 3rd st from hook (s d c: thread over hook, insert in st, pull through, thread over and pull through all loops at one time), 1 s d c in each remaining st of ch, cut thread. Work another branch in same manner starting with ch 40. Work 4 more branches in same manner, starting with ch 25, then work one starting with ch 15. Sew in position on case as illustrated. Work another pillow case in same manner.
