HEAD … Starting at center top with Mid Rose, ch 2. 1st rnd: Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Carry a colored thread up between last and first sc on each rnd to indicate beg of rnd. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc. 3rd rnd: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc—1 sc increased) 6 times. 4th rnd: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times. Next 2 rnds: Sc in each sc around, increasing 6 sc evenly spaced. Work even over these 36 sc for 10 rnds. Next rnd: Sc in next 7 sc, dec 1 sc—to dec 1 sc, (insert hook in next sc, thread over and draw loop through) twice; thread over and draw through all loops on hook; sc in next 18 sc, dec 1 sc, sc in next 7 sc. Following rnd: Sc in next 9 sc, (dec 1 sc) 8 times for chin shaping; sc in next 9 sc. Next rnd: Dec 1 sc, (sc in next sc, dec 1 sc) 8 times. Work 2 rnds even on remaining 17 sc. Following rnd: Sc in next 5 sc, ch 5 for right shoulder, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 ch, sc in next 9 sc, ch 5 for left shoulder, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 ch, sc in next 3 sc. Next rnd: Sc in next 5 sc; working along opposite side of next 4 ch, sc in next 3 ch, 2 sc in next ch, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 12 sc; working along opposite side of next 4 ch, sc in next 3 ch, 2 sc in next ch, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc. Following rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 2 sc at each shoulder. Sl st in back loop of next sc. Break off and fasten. Stuff head and neck firmly.
BODICE … 1st rnd: Picking up the back loop of each sc only, attach Hunter's Green to sc at center back, sc in same loop and in each sc around, increasing 1 sc at center front. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rnds: Working through both loops of each sc throughout, sc in each sc around, decreasing 1 sc at outer side of each shoulder. Work 3 rnds even. 8th rnd: Decreasing 1 sc at center back and center front, sc in each sc around. Work 1 rnd even. Next rnd: Repeat 2nd rnd. Repeat last 2 rnds once more. Work 3 rnds even. Sl st in next sc. Break off and fasten.
NECK RUFFLE … With Chartreuse and working in the free loops of the last Mid Rose rnd, attach thread to sc at center back, sc in same sc, ch 5, * sc in next sc, ch 5. Repeat from * around. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten. Stuff shoulders and bodice. Sew lower edge of back and front together.
SLEEVE AND HAND (Make 2) … Using Hunter's Green, work as for Head until the 2nd rnd has been completed. Work 10 rnds even. 13th rnd: Sl st in first 6 sc, sc in next 6 sc. 14th rnd: Sc in the sc where each of next 6 sl sts were made on last rnd, sc in next 6 sc. Repeat last 2 rnds once more. Sl st in back loop of next sc. Break off and fasten. Stuff sleeve loosely. 17th rnd: Attach Mid Rose to same loop where sl st was made, ch 1, sc in same loop and in back loop of next 11 sc. Working through both loops of each sc throughout, work 1 rnd even. Next rnd: (Sc in 4 sc, dec 1 sc) twice. Stuffing sleeve firmly while working, work 5 rnds even. Following rnd: (Dec 1 sc, sc in next sc) 3 times; sc in next sc. Work 2 rnds even. Next rnd: Dec 1 sc, sc in each sc around. Work 2 rnds even. Sl st in next sc. Break off and fasten. Sew up opening and draw sts together on 2nd rnd below the closing to shape wrist. Sew sleeves in place at sides, directly under the ruffle.
BONNET … Starting at center top with Chartreuse, ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3 to count as 1 dc, make 11 dc in ring. Join to top of ch-3. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in joining, 2 dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc—1 dc increased; (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) 11 times. Join. 4th rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, increasing 12 dc evenly spaced. Join—48 dc. 5th rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join. 6th rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining and in each dc around, decreasing 6 sc evenly spaced. Join—42 sc. 7th rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining and in next 15 sc, (dec 1 sc) 5 times; sc in next 16 sc. Join—37 sc. Work 1 rnd even.
BRIM … 1st rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining and in next 4 sc, h dc in next sc, dc in next sc, (2 tr in each of next 2 sc, tr in next sc) 7 times; (2 tr in next sc) twice; dc in next sc, h dc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. Join. 2nd rnd: Sl st in next sc, ch 3, (sc in next st, ch 3) 43 times; sl st in each remaining st. Join. Break off and fasten.
Place bonnet on head as shown and sew in place. With yellow, embroider loops for hair across forehead and at both sides of head. With brown, embroider eyelashes and eyebrows. With blue, embroider pupils. With rose, embroider mouth.
SKIRT … With Hunter's Green and starting at waist, ch 34. 1st row (wrong side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: In first sc make (dc, ch 1) twice; * in next sc make (dc, ch 1) twice. Repeat from * across to within last sc, in last sc make dc, ch 1 and dc—66 sps. Ch 4, turn. Next 10 rows: Dc in first sp, * ch 1, dc in next sp. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 13th row: Repeat last row, increasing 11 sps evenly across—to inc 1 sp, make a dc in sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1—11 sps. Ch 4, turn. Work even for 16 rows. Break off and fasten at end of last row.
POINTED RUFFLE … (NOTE: The turning chain or the end dc, as the case may be, will be the first dc of each row on skirt.) Attach Chartreuse to first dc on 21st row, sc around bar of next dc on same row, ch 3, sc around bar of next dc, ch 3, sc around bar of 3rd dc on 22nd row, ch 3, sc around bar of 3rd dc on 23rd row, ch 3, sc around bar of 4th dc on 24th row, ch 3, sc around bar of 4th dc on 25th row, ch 3, sc around bar of 5th dc on 26th row, ch 3, sc around bar of 5th dc on 27th row, * ch 3, turn; working in reverse diagonal direction back to the 21st row, (sc around bar of next dc on next row, ch 3) 6 times; working diagonally toward 27th row, sc around bar of next dc on 21st row, (ch 3, sc around bar of next dc on next row) 6 times. Repeat from * across entire skirt. Break off and fasten.
LOWER RUFFLE … Attach Chartreuse to first dc on 28th row, * ch 5, sc in next dc on same row. Repeat from * across. Break off and fasten.
Sew narrow ends of skirt together, leaving a 6-inch opening at the top. Fold skirt, having bottom of seam 2 inches in from the left side, then sew up lower edge opening. Sew waist edge around waist of bodice.
HANGER LOOP … With Chartreuse, ch 25, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off, leaving a 6-inch end. Thread into a needle and sew first and last sts together, then sew to center top of bonnet and to head.
