How To Begin Crocheting Hobby

To begin crocheting, you can use any kind of kind of yarn; but, make sure that the hook’s size and yarn matches.  You’ll need to buy some needles and yarn; beginners’ recommended size includes G, H and I because smaller hook sizes are very difficult to handle.

Crochet hooks are found in an array of sizes and materials. For example, steel crochet hooks are typically used with doilies and threads, which are found in sizes 00 to 16. The higher then number is, the smaller your hook is going to be. The yarn hooks can be recognized by their letters B to Q; B being the smallest and Q being the largest.

Buy one light and one dark colored yarn to see what your progress is and how you have been doing. Purchase ordinary yarn, not chenille or wool because these are difficult to work with. When you buy yarn, you want to test the strength of it. You can do this by rubbing the yarn strands together using your index finger and thumb. If it unravels quite a bit, move on and test other yarn until you feel the differences and it doesn’t unravel. Purchase more yarn than what is called for in the pattern. After all, you could run out and may find that you can’t find that type of yarn anymore, whether it’s temporarily or permanently.
