Gauge: 11 stitches=2 inches

With brown K, ch 330, skip first st from hook, work 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, inserting hook in horizontal thread back of chain sts, skip 1 st, * 1 s c in each of 11 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of 11 sts, skip 2 sts; repeat from * 12 times; the last time skip only 1 st; 1 s c in each of the last 2 sts. 2nd row: ch 1, turn, 1 s c in each of the first 2 sts, taking up both threads of st below, skip 1 st, * 1 s c in each of the next 11 sts, taking up back thread only of sts below, 3 s c in back thread of next st, 1 s c in back thread of each of the next 11 sts, skip 2 sts; repeat from * 12 times; the last time skip only 1 st at end of point, 1 s c in each of the last 2 sts, taking up both threads of st below. (The first and the last 2 sts are taken on both threads of st to prevent edge from curling.) Repeat 2nd row for the entire work, using colors as follows: 2 rows (1 ridge) in each of brown J, I and H, tan G and F. * 1 row each of yellow A, B and C, burnt orange D, 2 rows (1 ridge) each of black, brown K, J, I and H, tan G, F and E; repeat from * (the last 10 ridges) twice. There will now be 36 ridges from beginning of afghan. Work 2 ridges in each of blown K, J, I and H, tan G and F, then 1 ridge of tan E (13 ridges in last stripe). Repeat the last 13 ridges 3 times. Work 1 ridge in each of brown K, J, I and H, tan G, F and E, 1 row in each of yellow A, B and C, burnt orange D; 1 ridge each of black, brown K, J, I and H, tan G, F and E. Repeat the last 10 ridges (from first yellow row) twice, but the last time omit the last ridge tan E. Darn in ends.

With yellow A, ch 441, skip 1st st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 7 sts, 3 s c in next st, * 1 s c in each of the next 7 sts, skip 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 7 sts, 3 s c in next st; repeat from * across, ending row with 7 s c after the 3 s c in one st, join with a slip st in first st of row; break off yarn. 2nd round: turn, draw up a loop of yellow B, through the joining st in round below, ch 1, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, taking up back thread only, of sts below ("slipper stitch"), * 3 s c in next st (the top st of first point), 1 s c in each of the next 7 sts, skip 2 sts (the last st of first point and the first st of next point), 1 s c in each of the next 7 sts; repeat from * around, ending with 3 s c in top st and 1 s c in each of 7 sts, join with a slip st in first st of round and break off when changing colors, leaving last st unworked; repeat 2nd round for entire pillow, using colors as follows: 1 round each of yellow C and burnt orange D, 2 rounds (1 ridge) in each of black, brown K, J, I and H, and tan G, F and E. There will now be 20 rounds (10 ridges) from beginning; repeat them once, then repeat the first 8 ridges once again (28 ridges in all).

CENTERS—With tan G, ch 4, join with a slip st into a ring; work 8 s c in ring. 2nd round: insert hook in next st, wind yarn 3 times around end of left forefinger, insert hook under threads on finger, with middle finger of right hand hold down all loops now on hook, free left forefinger, yarn over and through all but the last loop on hook, over and through the remaining 2 loops on hook. This makes a loop stitch; work a loop st in each of the remaining 7 sts in round. 3rd round: (do not turn) work 2 s c in each st. 4th round: 1 loop st in each of the 16 sts in preceding round. 5th round: 2 s c in each st. 6th round: 32 loop sts in round. 7th round: with brown H, * work 1 s c in each of 3 sts, 2 s c in next st; repeat from * around (40 sts). 8th round: 40 loop sts. 9th round: * 1 s c in each of 4 sts, 2 s c in next st; repeat from * around (48 sts). 10th round: 48 loop sts. 11th round: with brown I, make * 1 s c in each of 5 sts, 2 s c in next st; repeat from * around (56 sts). 12th round: 56 loop sts. Make a 2nd center piece for other side using yellow B and C and burnt orange D.

With a tapestry needle and double yarn, catch each of the 26 points and draw them together, leaving an opening of about 3 inches; insert pillow form and draw other side together; sew centers over openings. Darn in ends.
