An easy-to-do motif combines in an allover star pattern to make a versatile and charming bedspread.

MATERIALS:

SINGLE SIZE
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN,
41 balls of White or Ecru, or 48 balls of any color.

CLARK'S O.N.T. LUSTERSHEEN,
31 skeins of White or Ecru, or 41 skeins of any color.

DOUBLE SIZE
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN,
50 balls of White or Ecru, or 60 balls of any color.

39 skeins of White or Ecru, or 50 skeins of any color.

Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 5 or 6.

GAUGE:

Each block measures about 5¾ inches across, from side to side (6¼ inches from point to point).
For a single size spread, about 72 x 108 inches, make 241 blocks.
For a double size spread, about 90 x 108 inches, make 304 blocks.

BLOCK … Starting at center, ch 6, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 11 d c in ring. Join to 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, d c in same place as sl st, 2 d c in each d c around; join. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, * 2 d c in next d c, d c in next d c. Repeat from * around (36 d c, counting ch-3 as 1 d c). Join. 4th rnd: Ch 3, d c in next 3 d c, * 2 d c in next d c, ch 2, skip 1 d c, d c in next 4 d c. Repeat from * around, ending with 2 d c in next d c, ch 2. Join to 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 5th rnd: Ch 3, * d c in each d c to within last d c of d c-group, 2 d c in last d c of same group, ch 3- Repeat from * around; join. 6th rnd: Ch 3, * d c in each d c to within last d c of d c-group, 2 d c in last d c of same group, ch 2, d c in sp, ch 2. SECOND BLOCK … Work as for first block to 13th rnd incl. 14th rnd: Sl st in next d c, ch 3, d c in next d c, ch 2, sl st in loop of 1st block directly following d c-group; ch 2, s c back in next loop on 2nd block. * Ch 2, sl st in next loop on 1st block, ch 2, s c in next loop back on 2nd block. Repeat from * until 9 loops are joined; then ch 2, skip 1 d c, d c in next 2 d c. Complete rnd as for first block. Fasten off.

Make necessary number of blocks (see diagram), and join as second block was joined to first. For single size spread, disregard blocks to left of heavy line.

FRINGE … Make fringe in every other loop between scallops on both long sides as follows: Cut 16 strands, each 10 inches long. Double these strands, forming a loop. Pull loop through first space and draw loose ends through loop. Pull tight (there should be 7 groups of fringe on each upper straight edge between scallops). Trim ends evenly.
