Break off at end of 19th rnd.

PETALS1st row: With right side of work toward you, attach color A to front loop of one d c on 2nd rnd of block, ch 3 (to count as d c), d c in same place, 2 d c in front loop of each of next 7 d c, ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in 1st d c, d c in each d c across, 2 d c in 3rd st of ch-3 of previous row (2 d c increased, counting ch-3 as 1 d c). Repeat 2nd row until there are 26 d c in the row. Then work 2 rows of d c in each d c across (without increasing). Ch 1, turn. Next row: Half d c in 1st d c, d c in each of next 7 d c, half d c in next d c, s c in each of next 8 d c, half d c in next d c, d c in each of next 7 d c, half d c in 3rd st of turning ch-3. Break off. Attach color A to next d c on 2nd rnd of block, and make another petal. Continue in this manner until 5 petals in all are made. Sew petals in place. With Six Strand, make a rnd of French knots around the base of petals, winding thread around needle 4 times. Then make another rnd of French knots ¼ inch above previous rnd. This completes one floral block. For a plain block, use only main color, and omit petals.

Make necessary number of blocks, and sew them together as in diagram, with neat over-and-over stitches on wrong side. (Heavy lines on diagram indicate single size spread.) Then work a row of ch-2 sps around side and bottom edges of spread. Finish spread with a fringe in every other sp around these three edges.

FRINGE...Cut 8 strands, each 14 inches long. Double these strands, forming a loop. Pull loop through sp and draw loose ends through loop. Pull tight. When fringe has been worked around three edges, trim evenly.
