Materials Required — AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED, ARTICLE W11
3 – 1¼ oz. Skeins Green.
3 – 1¼ oz. Skeins Amber.
19 – 1¼ oz. Skeins Scarlet.
12 – 1¼ oz. Skeins Cardinal.
47 – 1¼ oz. Skeins Black.
Each motif measures about 7 inches.
70 motifs 7 x 10 are required for Afghan.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 6 or No. 7.

With Green, ch 5, join to form a ring and work 8 puff sts with ch 2 between each puff st in ring. (Puff st: yarn over needle, insert in ring and pull loop up the length of a d c, * yarn over needle, insert in same space, pull loop up the same length, repeat from *, yarn over and pull through all loops on needle but one, yarn over and pull through 2 loops) , break yarn.

2nd Row. Attach Yellow in 2 ch loop, ch 3, 2 d c in same loop, * ch 1, 3 d c in next loop, repeat from * all around, ch 1, join in 3rd st of ch, break yarn.

3rd Row. Attach Cardinal in ch 1 loop, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, ch 1, 3 d c in same space, (corner) ch 1, 3 d c in next 1 ch loop, ch 1, 3 d c, ch 1, 3 d c in next loop, (corner) continue in same manner all around, ch 1, join, break yarn.

4th Row. Attach Scarlet in corner loop, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, ch 1, 3 d c in same space, * ch 1, 3 d c in next 1 ch loop, repeat from *, ch 1, 3 d c, ch 1, 3 d c in corner loop, continue all around in same manner, ch 1, join, break yarn.

5th Row. Attach Black in corner loop, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, ch 1, 3 d c in same space, 3 d c in each of the next 3 loops, 3 d c, ch 1, 3 d c in corner loop, continue in same manner all around, join.

6th Row. Attach Scarlet and work 1 puff st in each d c and 2 puffs sts, ch 3, 2 puff sts in loop at each corner, join, break yarn.

7th Row. Attach Black and work 1 d c in each puff st working 3 d c, ch 3, 3 d c in loop at each corner. Work 69 more squares in same manner. Sew or crochet squares together.

EDGE. With Black, work 1 d c in each d c, working 3 d c, ch 3, 3 d c in loop at each corner and 2 d c in each corner loop at joinings, break yarn.

2nd Row. Attach Scarlet at corner, ch 3, 3 d c in same space, ch 3, 4 d c in same space, skip the length of a d c, s c in next d c, * skip the length of a d c, 7 d c in next st, (shell) skip the length of a d c, s c in next st, repeat from * all around having 3 shells on side of each motif and 1 shell at each joining, working all corners same as 1st corner, join, break yarn.

3rd Row. Attach Black at corner, ch 3, 3 d c in same space, ch 3, 4 d c in same space, s c in center of next shell, * 7 d c in next s c, s c in center of next shell, repeat from * all around working all corners same as 1st corner, join.

4th Row. Attach Scarlet and work same as last row but having 6 d c in each s c, join, break yarn.
