MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN," Art. A.64: 2 balls each of White and No. 126 Spanish Red; 1 ball each of No. 12 Black and No. 43 Dk. Yel­low and a few yards each of No. 48 Hunter's Green, No. 26 Nile Green, No. 65 Beauty Pink, No. 76 Robinette, No. 46-A Mid Rose and No. 37 Dk. Lavender.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

A doll 8 inches tall, chest 4 ½ inches.

SKIRT ... Starting at narrow end with White, make a chain 7 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Drop White. Turn. 3rd row: Attach Spanish Red to first sc, sc in same sc and in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sc in each sc across. Drop Spanish Red, pick up White. Make 2 rows of White and 2 rows of Spanish Red alternately until piece measures 32 inches, ending with Spanish Red. Break off. Sew narrow ends together, leaving 1 inch free for back opening on side where colors were changed.

Now work waist edge of skirt as follows: 1st row: Attach Spanish Red to end st of starting chain at back opening, sc in same place, sc in end of each Red stripe across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc closely across, holding in to fit around waist. Break off.

TRIM ... With Black make a chain 40 inches long. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across until piece is long enough to fit around bottom of skirt. Cut off remaining chain. Break off. Sew to lower edge of skirt, 1 ¼ inches from bottom.

BLOUSE—Front ... Starting at lower edge with Nile Green, ch 20. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Break off at end of 4th row. Attach thread to 9th dc from end of last row and work across shoulder and back as follows: 1st row: Ch 3, dec 1 dc—to dec 1 dc, work off 2 dc as 1 dc—dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, decreasing 1 dc over last 2 dc, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd and 4th rows: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows. At end of 4th row, ch 6, turn. 5th row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch, dc in each dc across and in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 6th to 11th rows incl: Repeat 2nd row. Break off at end of 11th row. Attach thread to first free dc at front of Blouse and work other side to correspond. Sew first 4 rows of front to last 4 rows of back at underarm to form sleeve opening.

SLEEVE ... 1st rnd: Attach thread to underarm seam, ch 3, dc in center of end st of next row, * dc in top of next end st, dc in center of same end st. Repeat from * around. Join to top of chain (14 sts, including ch 3). 2nd and 3rd rnds: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join. Break off at end of 3rd rnd. Work other sleeve the same way.

Now work around neck as follows: 1st row: Attach Spanish Red to back opening, sl st closely around. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first sl st, * ch 3, skip next sl st, sc in next sl st. Repeat from * across. Break off. Sew Blouse to Skirt. Sew 2 snap fasteners to back opening of Blouse and hook and eye to skirt opening.

APRON ... Starting at lower edge with Black make a chain 4 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Drop Black, attach Hunter's Green to last sc made. Make 2 sc rows of Hunter's Green. Break off. Pick up Black and continue working in stripes, making 4 rows of Black between 2 rows each of Beauty Pink, Robinette, Mid Rose and Hunter's Green, ending with the 2 Hunter's Green rows. Next row: With Black, * work off next 2 sc as 1 sc (1 sc decreased). Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Following row: Sc in each sc across, decreasing 5 sc evenly across. Ch 35, turn.

TIE ... Attach a separate piece of Black to other end of row, ch 34. Pick up main thread, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sc in each sc and in each ch across the other tie chain. Break off.

RUFFLE ... 1st row: Attach Dk. Yellow to upper edge of Apron, sc closely around 3 sides, making 3 sc at corners. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first sc, * ch 5, skip next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Break off.

HAT ... With Spanish Red make a chain 4 ¾ inches long. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 2 sc in each ch around. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join. Repeat 2nd rnd until piece measures 1 ½ inches from starting chain. Break off. Make a pleat in each side of Hat. Sew a flower to side of Hat.

BASKET ... Starting at center of bottom with Dk. Yellow, ch 2. 1st rnd: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 1, sc in first sc, * 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, increasing 8 sc evenly around. Join. Repeat 4th rnd until piece measures 1 ¼ inches in diameter. Next rnd: Picking up back loop only, sc in each sc around. Continue working without increasing until side measures 1 ¼ inches. Break off.

BORDER ... With wrong side of basket facing, attach Lavender to back loop of last rnd and work in pattern for 4 more rnds. Join and break off.

HANDLE ... Wind a strand of Dk. Yellow closely around a piece of wire 4 ¼ inches long. Wind a strand of Lavender loosely over Dk. Yellow. Fasten ends securely. Insert ends of wire through top of basket and fasten ends securely. Place flowers in basket.
